Horrible Histories is bringing its trademark mix of comedy and history to life in a new live show experience this summer
Families looking for ways to entertain the kids over the school holidays are in luck. Audiences can journey back over 3,000 years this summer as the creators behind Horrible Histories deliver their signature blend of comedy and history to a top London venue.
The Horrible Histories: Live at the Museum experience offers an interactive journey brimming with ancient treasures, colourful characters and heaps of entertainment. The show will debut at NEON at Battersea Power Station, within the Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold exhibition.
Drawing inspiration from the life and reign of Ramses II, the adventure kicks off with visitors being guided through the exhibition by “Ramses” himself. As families explore the galleries, they’ll discover captivating tales from the iconic pharaoh’s reign while encountering over 180 invaluable Egyptian artefacts, including the genuine coffin of Ramses the Great and the stunning gold mask of Amenemope.

The excitement doesn’t stop there, reports the Mirror. Following their exploration of the exhibition, visitors will enjoy a side-splitting live stage performance featuring the notorious Mummy Rap, audience participation and an amusing, fact-packed examination of the remarkable mummification process.

For budding dinosaur enthusiasts, Dinosaur World Live provides the opportunity to embark on a prehistoric adventure, where families can encounter life-sized dinosaurs, including a towering Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops.
While the new Horrible Histories experience doesn’t launch until 27th July, the Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold exhibition has already earned rave reviews on TripAdvisor from visitors who have discovered its incredible collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts.
The exhibition has already received heaps of praise on TripAdvisor, with numerous visitors describing it as both captivating and beautifully curated. One visitor wrote: “Amazing – excellent audio and exhibition. Makes you wonder how the British Museum survives when you see such well-organised and thoughtful pop-up exhibits. The VR at the end was also worthwhile.”
Adele was thoroughly taken with the experience, stating: “Fabulous exhibition. Very easy to hear and see all the artefacts. Very well laid out and a really good atmosphere. The admission slots are just right to allow a good, uncrowded flow through the different rooms.
“Lots of benches are placed throughout for those with mobility issues. The fee, I think, is realistic for such an informative exhibition. We arrived via Tube and followed the yellow footprints to the exhibition halls quite easily. We were at the exhibition for around 90 to 120 minutes.”
Judith was equally thrilled, adding: “Fabulous exhibition. We stayed 2.5 hours. Really informative for the non-specialist. Beautiful jewellery. Impressive top-notch graphics. A lot of exhibits from the Cairo Museum. Also, the staff are very pleasant and helpful.”
Another visitor wrote: “Ramses II gets a worthy exhibition in London. Like many ancient Egypt-related exhibitions that come to the capital, this collection has had a bit of a world tour. This has been the best I’ve seen in recent years, with real artefacts from the time of one of Egypt’s longest-ruling kings.
“Statues, gold jewellery, mummies and pieces from other kings and dynasties. The VR was definitely worth the £14 extra fee. Some amazing pieces that will end up in the recently opened GEM at Giza when this current tour comes to an end, and of course, there’s a gift shop and cafe at the end.”
However, not everyone was entirely convinced. One critic noted that the virtual reality experience comes with an extra charge, remarking: “Advertising shows VR experience. This is an extra payment. You would be better off going to the museum.”
Another reviewer, who awarded a five-star rating, was pleasantly taken aback by the experience, stating: “Wasn’t sure what to expect here but this is absolutely worth going to for museum fans – a treasure trove of fantastically well-preserved and priceless artefacts from the height of ancient Egypt.
“Well laid out and good descriptions that provide the context and history of the era in the right amount of detail – we learnt a lot about the incredible life of Ramses II, and seeing his well-preserved coffin at the end was spectacular.”
