Day four of Glorious Goodwood is all about speed with the King George Qatar Stakes the stand-out contest.
The race will be over in about 60 seconds as the runners thunder down the home straight. The Daily Star’s chief tipster Jason Heavey – who had five winners on Tuesday – takes a look at each race and picks out a main selection and each-way alternative. Prices correct at the time of writing. Jason had two winners on Thursday, with Ciarrai Abu and Enceladus, to follow up his five-winning tips on Tuesday and a number of each-way lands so far this week.
Our man Jason is one of the country’s leading newspaper tipsters. In 2023 he did the rare double of winning both national tipping titles – the Racing Post Press Challenge and also the coveted Racing Post Naps Table. He is currently the leading “red-top” tipster in the country in the National Press Challenge table.
1.50 Coral Goodwood Handicap
DEFIANTLY can live up to his name and repel all raiders in this marathon contest. The four-year-old ran a remarkable race in the Ascot Stakes when he came within a whisker of holding off stablemate Kiziyar.
Aided by first-time headgear, he travelled well and relished the 2m4f stamina test. Off a 4lb higher rating, the same distance faces him here and James Doyle will almost certainly send him forward and aim to make all the running.
St Mawes has posted two solid efforts at Goodwood already this season and the step up in trip could eke out more improvement and I fancy him each-way at around 11-1
Kentucky River has been in good form over hurdles with two recent victories and his last run on the Flat was a runaway win at Pontefract last August. He is a tempting play to hit the frame at 16-1.

TALK OF NEW YORK can take advantage of a drop in class and make short work of his rivals. His third to Bow Echo and Gstaad in the Group One St James’s Palace Stakes was franked by their stellar efforts in the Sussex Stakes earlier this week.
Charlie Appleby’s son of Wootton Bassett looked a machine when he won the Heron Stakes at Sandown before his mighty effort at Ascot where he raced a bit keenly in the early stages. He should get the job done in this Group Three affair and move on to better things.
Saber Strike is something of a talking horse who has failed to live up to the hype but the track could suit him. I fancy him to chase home the selection.

3.00 Coral Golden Mile Handicap
INDALO ticks all the boxes in this terrific betting race. Roger Varian’s grey has made rapid strides in the last 12 months and produced a career best when scoring in a valuable handicap at Sandown four weeks ago.
He is 2lb “well in” under a penalty and he showed he handles the track with a solid run at this meeting 12 months ago. Indalo is well berthed in stall six and should be involved at the business end.
Blue Brother, Beagle Bay and Tribal Chief will all be popular. I also like Scoville who ran well at Ascot when not beaten far in the Royal Hunt Cup and he has been well punted.
Ancient Rome could also pinch a place at a huge price (33-1) with bookies offering each-way terms on the first five or six.

3.35 Qatar King George Stakes
JAKAJARO is rock solid and should run a huge race in this “blink and you’ll miss it” speed test.
Robert Cowell has worked wonders with the five-year-old who has upped his game to a massive degree this season winning twice and posting several strong efforts. He likes the track as he showed at last year’s meeting and Jamie Spencer will probably blast off in front from stall five.
Jakajaro is drawn away from another speedball in Night Raider who has also improved this season although he has to concede weight.
American Affair has been below par so far this campaign but has the ability to bounce back and he should be pounding home late on off a strong gallop. I like his each-way chance at 11-1.

4.10 Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes
With Goodwood specialist Naqeeb scratched from the race last night, I’m going for GALEN to land one for the Irish.
The gelding has already won more than £500,000 in career prize money and can add another £50k with success in this race.
Joseph O’Brien’s lad is the highest rated horse in the race and returned to form with a good fourth in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot. The trainer had a winner on Thursday with Enceladus and Galen will be hard to beat.
Each-way thieves could do worse than try Diego Ventura (20-1) who could sneak into the places.

4.45 Howes & Curtis Nursery Handicap
PAPER VIEW (nap) can write his own headlines in this red-hot betting race.
The juvenile has bolted up twice in minor contests within the space of nine days – the latest at Ripon coming just four days ago. He has a 6lb penalty but the 10-1 shot still looks like a horse well ahead of the handicapper. Richard Hannon would not be rolling the dice again so quickly if he didn’t think he could do the business.
Innichen has a similar profile and comes into the reckoning while others on the short list are The Dancing Pirate and Ben Haslam’s Dubai Champion, who has been very well backed.
Each-way punters should get their teeth into Revels, who is smart but looks overpriced at a sweet looking 14-1.

5.20 World Pool Bet With The Tote Handicap
ASTRACORNUS has the perfect profile for this trappy handicap. He hit the line strongly to break his duck at Nottingham before running a close second at Newbury in a stronger race where they went no pace.
The extra trip will suit David Menuisier’s horse who is lurking at the bottom of the weights off 8st 7lb under the in-form Saffie Osborne.
Devil’s Peak has a similar profile and can build on his recent Newbury success while there appears plenty of market confidence behind Pierian.

5.55 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies handicap
ROOM FOURTEEN can strike for Ryan Moore in the getting out stakes.
Just seven runners go to post and the selection has shown steady progression this season with three victories. She is 6lb higher in the handicap after scoring at Doncaster 22 days ago but I fancy her to see off the unexposed Silver Lake.
William Haggas’ filly showed tenacity to win at Salisbury last time but will have to improve.
In the weakest race of the day, Wisper can be given a squeak. The mare ran well in this race 12 months ago when coming fifth after breaking slowly from the stalls.
