A man was caught allegedly trying to hide a horde of cheese he had stolen under his wheelchair. A video shows the moment workers became aware of the alleged ruse and surrounded him on the pavement as packets of Cathedral City cheese appeared from beneath the wheelchair.
A man wearing a checked shirt and baseball cap can be seen standing behind the wheelchair while three women, including one wearing an Iceland-branded shirt, remove the products from the bottom of the disability aid.
Cheese packets are retrieved, with further blocks also seen lying across the pavement as the bystanders struggle to retrieve the goods.
Once the products have been taken out, the man in the checked shirt pushes the wheelchair away from the scene along the street.
The footage was reportedly recorded outside an Iceland supermarket in New Cross, south-east London and later uploaded online on July 30 and viewed more than 93,000 times.
Social media users reacted with a mixture of disbelief and jokes about the supermarket’s famous slogan.
One person said: “That’s why mums go to Iceland.”
Another person added: “Standard day in south London can’t lie.”
Others raised concerns about what would happen to the cheese following the alleged incident.
One person asked: “Please tell me they ain’t putting those back in the shelves”, meanwhile, another person wrote: “Eww, that cheese just got a new a** flavour.”
It is unclear whether anybody was detained, arrested or charged following the alleged incident.
