The sending off came after the midfielder was substituted
The brother of a former Celtic star was dismissed after he caused chaos with a fan during a Scottish Cup clash. Hawick’s Paul Tansey removed his top, climbed a wall and challenged the jeering supporter in the stands during his side’s tie against Penicuik.
Tansey’s actions were caught on camera during the match with video footage shared across social media. The midfielder, who is the sibling of ex-Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, had been making his way to the dugout when he spotted the fan shouting at him.
He jumped over the wall, pulled off his shirt and confronted the supporter. Two members of staff were involved in pulling him away from the fan, who just smiled and continued with his jeers.

Tansey was then shown a red card by the referee for his actions. Hawick boss Kenny Aitchison criticised the midfielder’s behaviour and confirmed the matter was being handled internally.
He said: “We’ve had a chat after the game and this morning after everything calmed down. It’s being dealt with internally. The club cannot comment further until the referee’s report comes in and we speak to the player again, that is the due process.
“This is out of character for the Paul we have seen over the last 18 months as a club. We have never had any incident with him and he’s always been a good trainer and he treats staff and younger players well.”
Despite Tansey’s dismissal, Hawick equalised and sent the game into extra time. Penicuik’s Daryl Healy scored the eventual winner and confirmed their passage into the next stage of the competition.
The 40-year-old has been involved in Scottish football for a number of years, akin to his brother Griffiths. The ex-Scotland international appeared for Celtic, Dundee, Wolves, Livingston and Falkirk, securing seven league titles during his time in Glasgow.
He most recently moved to Australia and turned out for Stirling Macedonia. On the other hand, Tansey has carved out his career in Scotland’s lower leagues. He has played for the likes of Musselburgh Athletic, Newtongrange, Penicuik, Dalkeith and East Fife.
