Liverpool information: Bradley Barcola talks progress as Andoni Iraola makes resolution

Liverpool have been linked with a number of players in the transfer window, with Andoni Iraola looking to ramp up negotiations after a miserable friendly defeat

Bradley Barcola’s move to Liverpool is progressing

Liverpool will be ramping up their efforts behind the scenes to land a marquee signing or two as soon as possible following the 4-2 friendly defeat against Leeds.

The Reds have brought in just one player this summer so far, Spanish winger Victor Munoz, with Jeremy Jacquet also joining after an agreement to secure the defender from Rennes in February. Sunday’s match became a story of contrasting halves from Andoni Iraola’s team as Liverpool built a commanding 2-0 lead in the opening period and looked utterly in control.

Leeds then overpowered a heavily changed Liverpool side after the break and handed the Basque manager his first defeat since assuming control. The aftermath has sparked countless fans on social media to call for further additions, with the Reds needing strengthening in defence and attack before the window closes. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Liverpool news.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that fresh dialogue will occur between the Reds and PSG this week. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “New contacts [will be] prepared between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.”

Reports suggest that Barcola is keen on a move to Anfield, despite also drawing interest from the likes of Arsenal.

Romano added that “conversations will continue next week”, although he stressed no deal is imminent, giving the Reds more time to seal the transfer.

PSG are reportedly asking for around £145m for the French international, but Liverpool are believed to be eager to significantly reduce that price. Romano has hinted the deal could extend throughout the summer, adding it now “depends on Liverpool, on how much they want to spend.”

Spurs in for Cody Gakpo

Spurs are reportedly interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, though the Reds are hesitant to let go of the Dutch star. Sky Sports suggests that Liverpool would only agree to Gakpo’s exit if a suitable replacement can be secured.

The Netherlands international still has four years left on his contract, and talkSPORT has suggested that Liverpool would likely command around £70m for the winger.

Gakpo featured in 52 matches for Liverpool last season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. If he were to depart without a replacement being signed, it would leave Liverpool relying solely on young talent Rio Ngumoha and new recruit Victor Munoz on the flanks.

Spurs have forked out £237m this summer and manager Roberto De Zerbi has suggested there’s more to follow. “The transfer market, it’s not finished for sure, but we completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba!” he revealed to football.london last week.

Gakpo arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven for roughly £37m. He has since racked up 180 appearances for the Reds, bagging 50 goals and providing 23 assists, including contributing to the Premier League title success in 2025.
