Arsenal information: Mikel Arteta handed Bruno Guimaraes replace with switch now ‘imminent’

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, with the Brazilian midfielder’s transfer reportedly set to be completed soon

Mikel Arteta has hinted at more signings

It’s set to be a hectic week on the transfer front for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s squad continuing their preparations for the new Premier League campaign as they aim to retain their crown.

Their window has been fairly disappointing so far – and beyond Christos Tzolis, Andrea Berta has only confirmed deals for Piero Hincapie backup keeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer. However, Arsenal could be set to kick into gear with the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, with reports there’s eagerness from all sides to conclude matters.

Arsenal are optimistic that developments will occur before the window closes on September 1. Here, Daily Star Sport examines two of the most significant transfer stories concerning the Premier League champions.

Bruno Guimaraes posted an image of himself joining Newcastle’s pre-season training camp on Monday despite reports of his potential switch to Arsenal, before he was seen returning to action at their facility on Tuesdayreports Football London.

The Magpies captain has been central to a drawn-out summer transfer story, with the Gunners keen to land the Brazilian. Guimaraes is believed to have settled personal terms with Arsenal, but will not push through a transfer if no deal is struck between the two clubs.

He showed that, and with it his commitment as captain, by reuniting with the rest of the Newcastle squad on Monday. He was initially scheduled to return from his prolonged post-World Cup holiday on Sunday, but the club were content for him to arrive 24 hours later.

Christian Norgaard transfer imminent

Christian Norgaard is set to leave

Christian Norgaard underwent a medical at Everton on Tuesday, paving the way for his permanent exit from Arsenal. The seasoned Danish player joined just a year ago from Brentford in a transaction valued initially at £10m, with an additional £2m in add-ons.

Norgaard saw less action than he would have liked last season, making only seven appearances in the Prem – none of which were starts. Despite this, the 32-year old-midfielder earned considerable respect within the club for his leadership skills and positive impact in the dressing room.

He will leave north London as a Premier League champion, ahead of his £7m move to Everton. Norgaard had travelled with the Arsenal team to Girona last weekend for their 4-1 victory over the Spanish side but did not participate in the match as talks with Everton advanced.
