Liverpool face competition for Bradley Barcola

Liverpool’s summer transfer window business hasn’t been as bustling as many supporters would have hoped this summer. Nevertheless, the weekend delivered reinforcements to their defence following a series of injuries that left Virgil van Dijk as their only fit senior centre-back.

Ronald Araujo, the Barcelona skipper, is joining on a season-long loan to ease Andoni Iraola’s defensive worries. Attention now turns back to the Reds’ attacking line.

After a week in which former winger Mohamed Salah sealed his switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor, the need for offensive reinforcements is growing. Today’s developments see Liverpool faced with a worrying update concerning their chase for PSG winger Bradley Barcola…

Following reports Arsenal are preparing to table an offer for Barcola this summer a report from TEAMtalk suggests they’ve approached his representatives. Liverpool had earmarked the French talent as their main target this summer but may now face fierce rivalry for his signature.

The Premier League champions had turned their focus towards a spectacular swoop for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, as they look to bolster their own attacking choices, but he has pledged his future to the Spanish club with a fresh contract, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The winger is reportedly valued at around £145million, though some reports have indicated the figure is set closer to £128m. Arsenal are believed to have maintained a long-term interest in Barcola as they look to bolster their left wing.

Nevertheless, at this stage, Liverpool appear to be in pole position. Barcola is also thought to be keen on joining the Reds. However, with no breakthrough on a transfer fee achieved so far, time could be running out, with Arsenal ready to invest substantial money.

Liverpool are reluctant to approve an exit for Cody Gakpo unless they secure two forwards as replacements, according to talkSPORT. An update on Spurs’ chase of the Dutch striker indicated the north London outfit are determined to land the Premier League champion.

Spurs have allegedly been told that £70m might be enough to complete a deal. The report claims Liverpool’s current stance regarding the player they signed in January 2023 is to retain him, unless they can secure fresh signings in that area, scuppering any transfer for the time being.

Any headway on a possible transfer would likely only emerge late in the window, and with the cut-off date set for 1 September, time may not be in Spurs’ favour.

The outlet even hinted that insiders have labelled Spurs’ chase for Gakpo as a “fool’s errand,” considering Liverpool’s current unwillingness to let him depart Anfield.
