A second train has derailed less than 24 hours after 20 people were injured in a similar incident at Lewes.
The Greater Anglia train has derailed near Wickford in Essex, sparking major disruption on the rail network.
Passengers have been urged not to travel between Shenfield and Southend Victoria until further notice, while alternative travel arrangements have been put in place.
Responding to a question on social media, a spokesman for Greater Anglia said: “This is likely to go on for the rest of the day.”
Pictures on social media show a train that appears to have come off the tracks but has remained upright.
It comes after a major incident was declared by British Transport Police when three carriages derailed and trapped passengers on board a Southern train near Lewes on Thursday afternoon.
Eighteen others were also hurt after the 2.24pm service from London Victoria to Eastbourne flipped when tracks appeared to warp as heat hit 38°C.
Three carriages smashed through trees into a field near Lewes, East Sussex. A dad told of “pandemonium” as rescue crews swarmed the scene.
