Marcus Rashford made his return in Manchester United’s 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan, with Bruno Fernandes missing another penalty and Michael Carrick paying the price against Ruben Amorim
Manchester United’s pre-season ended with a spanking at the hands of AC Milan as the Red Devils twice threw away the lead and ended up suffering a 4-2 loss.
United got off to a flying start, scoring within two minutes as Harry Maguire headed in Bruno Fernandes’ corner. However, they failed to capitalise on this early advantage, and Milan equalised when Samuel Chukwueze found an open net. Fernandes then missed his second penalty of the week, with Lorenzo Torriani making the save. MUTV viewers may have been wishing that was the moment the cameras cut out.
United regained the lead when Patrick Dorgu took advantage of a dreadful defensive error, only for Alphadjo Cisse to level the score once again. Milan then took control of the match. Goncalo Ramos put them ahead with a header, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek broke away to add a fourth goal. Marcus Rashford looked lively when he was introduced as a substitute but his old foe and former boss Ruben Amorim got one over on his replacement in the Old Trafford dugout Michael Carrick.

Here’s how the United players performed in Wroclaw, as per the Manchester Evening News.
Starting XI
Senne Lammens: Made a fantastic reaction save in the first half but would have been disappointed to let in four goals. Could have done better with Loftus-Cheek’s goal. 6.
Noussair Mazraoui: Started strong but faded as the game went on. Solid enough at right-back and comfortable with the ball. 6.
Harry Maguire: Scored from Fernandes’ corner but was caught out of position for Chukwueze’s goal. Not the dominant performance we’re used to seeing from him. 5.
Ayden Heaven: Looks set to start against Hull now. A few sloppy passes but generally defended well throughout pre-season. 6.
Luke Shaw: Struggled against Chukwueze and seemed to have difficulty grasping Amorim’s system, particularly when facing the wing-back. 4.
Andrey Santos: Clashed with Maguire leading up to the first-half goal, resulting in both players on the ground. Could have been more proactive in closing down space. 6.
Youri Tielemans: Showed some sharp passing exchanges with Fernandes and a fantastic through-ball to Amad. Solid in possession but questions remain about his off-the-ball movement. 6.
Amad: His pressing was spot-on once again, although difficult to maintain in the adverse weather conditions. His link-up play with Cunha didn’t seem as natural as with Mbeumo. 6.
Bruno Fernandes: Back on corner duties after not taking them in Dublin, with immediate results. However, he missed another penalty, which was unexpected. 6.
Patrick Dorgu: His determined run and shot in the opening minute won the corner from which United scored, and he capitalised on a second-half mistake by attacking with purpose. 7.
Matheus Cunha: Started as a centre-forward and dropped deep to get involved, but couldn’t make the same impact on the game as Mbeumo has been doing. 5.
Substitutes
Diogo Dalot: Was easily outplayed by Ramos for the third goal and had one shot blocked. 5.
Lisandro Martinez: Made a steady return with a few aggressive moments. 6.
Kobbie Mainoo: Managed to shake off the rust but didn’t really get involved in the game alongside Tielemans. 5.
Shea Lacey: Had a quiet performance after coming on. 6.
Marcus Rashford: Made an effort to create opportunities and was the standout substitute. 7.
Bryan Mbeumo: Failed to maintain his pre-season momentum. 6.
