Arsenal are looking to land a blockbuster signing before the summer transfer window closes and Mikel Arteta has received hope in the Gunners’ attempts to convince Julian Alvarez
Arsenal will continue their Premier League campaign on Monday against Aston Villa, with new signing Ezri Konsa potentially making his Gunners debut against his former club after sealing a £51m move.
However, Mikel Arteta will be hoping that he has concluded more transfer business by then after the Spaniard received hope in their pursuit to sign Julian Alvarez.
The future of the Argentina striker has been a hotly debated topic this week. Atletico Madrid issued a strongly-worded statement about the forward, who is being pursued by Arsenal and Barcelona and is expected to sit out this weekend’s fixtures having missed training this week. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Arsenal news.

Julian Alvarez has been presented with a compelling case for joining Arsenal, as per The Independent. Intermediaries are believed to have convinced the Argentine that Mikel Arteta will utilise him in his favoured position while offering a realistic chance at Champions League glory together.
The Gunners have remained resolute in their pursuit of the ex-Manchester City star, despite his apparent inclination towards Barcelona. Atleti, however, are hesitant to sell to a domestic competitor, potentially paving the way for Arsenal to secure a deal.
“From a sporting perspective, I hope to help him in the best possible way so that he continues to be the vital player he is for us,” Atleti manager Diego Simeone stated. “Obviously, Julian won’t be available tomorrow. Once Julian returns to train with us, we will give him everything we’ve always given him to make him feel, as he has felt, important, as he is to this team.”
Martinelli medical scheduled
Gabriel Martinelli appears to be edging closer to an Arsenal departure. CBS Sports reports that the forward’s medical is arranged for this weekend ahead of a proposed move to Al-Hilal.
The deal for the Saudi outfit to sign Martinelli is believed to be worth around £55million. That’s the same fee they shelled out for Crysencio Summerville during a busy transfer window which will also see Ollie Watkins relocate to Riyadh.
Mikel Arteta addressed the Brazilian’s “personal” circumstances following an early departure from training during the week. “I think everybody knows and recognises how much we love Gabi,” he said.
“Whatever the outcome is, it will be because everybody agrees to that.”
