Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, has confirmed plans to close 14 Halifax branches across the UK in September, while also phasing out the Halifax name and rebranding locations to Lloyds
Halifax is poised to shut 14 UK branches next month as part of broader alterations to the Lloyds Banking Group branch network. This follows increasing numbers of customers shifting towards online and mobile banking while visiting branches for financial services less frequently.
Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, confirmed that the extensive modifications also involve removing the Halifax brand and rebranding branches to Lloyds.
A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: “There are no changes to previously announced plans for our branches.
“The vast majority of Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or you’ll be served by an existing Lloyds branch in that community. If there are any changes to your branch, we’ll let you know directly. You can also check your local branch page for the latest information.”
It adds: “To help you understand the reasons why we close a branch, we create two Closing Branch Review documents.”, reports the Express.
“Part 1 lets you know how we made the decision – and is available when we let everyone know about the closure. Part 2 gives a summary of the feedback we get following conversations with the local community – and is available 2 weeks before the branch closes.”
The bank also assured customers that it “always looks to understand the impact” on those affected, including access to banking services, Birmingham Live reports. It explained that Community Bankers may visit an area after it loses a bank branch.
A Banking Hub or Deposit Service could be set up in a nearby location.
“We are committed to following the requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority – ‘FG 22/6: Branch and ATM closures or conversions,” it added.
