A man has died after being struck by three vehicles on the M56 near Runcorn, with Cheshire Police appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after closing the road for hours
A man has tragically lost his life after being struck by three vehicles in the early hours of this morning (Monday).
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M56 following reports of a man being hit on the motorway between junction 12 at Runcorn and 14 at Hapsford around 12.50am.
Upon arrival, Cheshire Police officers and paramedics discovered that a man had been hit by a black Dacia Duster, a red Kia Niro and a black Ford Focus. Despite the valiant efforts of the emergency teams, the man, thought to be a 38-year-old from Golborne, was declared dead at the scene.
The deceased’s next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.
The M56 eastbound was shut for a considerable length of time before it was reopened around 9.15am.
Forensic investigations were reportedly carried out by the collisions team at Cheshire Police prior to the reopening of the carriageway, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.
“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and as part of the investigation we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or believes they may have seen the pedestrian on the motorway prior to the collision, to get in touch.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid our investigation.
