Liverpool completed three final transfers on deadline day, bringing their summer business to a close, but Andoni Iraola has been left short with an understocked squad
Liverpool’s transfer window ended with a very quiet deadline day and gaping holes still present in new manager Andoni Iraola’s squad.
The Premier League giants signed French sensation Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain for £123million in a huge deal for another nine-figures attacker, to join record-breakers Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, finally filling the gap left by Luiz Diaz when the left winger wasn’t replaced last season following his move to Bayern Munch. But they failed to replace Mohamed Salah and did not recruit a new right winger, despite interest in Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace ace Ismaila Sarr.
Curtis Jones also wasn’t replaced as Liverpool chose not to bring in a new central midfielder after their homegrown star’s exit to Inter Milan, while a right-back was not identified as one of the areas the club had to strengthen, despite defensive concerns plaguing them so far this season, doubts over Jeremie Frimpong’s suitability for the role and Conor Bradley’s long-term injury.

There were doubts over the future of Cody Gakpo with Manchester City prepared to shell out £85m for the Dutchman until any potential deal was scrapped, reports the Liverpool Echo.
