Iza Szyszko felt embarrassed when she realised she’d suffered an awkward wardrobe malfunction in a social media post, but some say the slip was an important life lesson
Wardrobe malfunctions are never a good thing, but sometimes they can be important life lessons. If you’ve ever been at the beach in a bikini and one of the straps has snapped, or you’ve come back from the bathroom at a wedding and realised only hours later that your zip has been down the entire time, you’ll know how embarrassing wardrobe slip-ups can be.
But one influencer on social media is owning her awkward wardrobe mishap, as she shared evidence of it with her 337,000 followers. Pilates teacher Iza Szyszko was meant to be filming a clip of herself relaxing on a boat, but when she reviewed the footage, she noticed something was off about her outfit.
Iza posted the video on TikTok anyway as she chose to own her mishap. While lounging on the boat, the angle of her legs in the clip meant you could see the bottom of her bikini, and could see a small strip of white peeking out, which was the wing of her sanitary towel.
She wrote on the clip: “When you think you’re getting a nice boat video but your pad has been hanging out the whole time.”
In the caption, she jokingly added that at least it was confirmation that she’s “not pregnant”, as she was clearly on her period when the video clip was filmed.
The plant-based content creator quickly racked up over 1.9 million views on her video, with more than 500 people rushing to the comments to share their thoughts on her unfortunate wardrobe mishap.
Most people were supportive of Iza’s decision to own the accident and still share it on social media, as they rightly pointed out periods are nothing to be ashamed of.
One person said: “The patriarchy has made us feel ashamed of our periods and pads. Enough.”
Another added: “Girl, wear the pad. Show the pad. I’m 41 and in perimenopause. Get the pad out and wave it around for all to see.”
A third wrote: “I love that you were confident enough to post this! You look fire!”
Many other people said they wouldn’t have noticed the very tiny white strip if she hadn’t pointed it out in the text, while a few offered to edit it out of the video or recommended Iza try switching to period underwear.
But there were some rude commenters who told Iza she was “weird” for posting the video, claiming that nobody wants to know about her menstrual cycle.
Someone wrote: “This is so weird that you’d post this for the world to see.”
Another argued: “We used to have secrets and decency.”
