Ryder Cup hopeful Eugenio Chacarra is set to receive a conduct warning from the DP World Tour following his involvement in a heated altercation with his former caddie at the European Masters. The Madrid-born star was seen in a fierce argument with Adolfo Juan Luna, who now carries the bag for Angel Ayora, on the 18th green at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club on Sunday.

As Chacarra’s team departed the green, a confrontation erupted between him and Luna, with security and local police stepping in to separate the pair. Footage circulating on social media shows the 26-year-old alleging he was struck during a scuffle that had developed moments before.

A DP World Tour spokesperson has now confirmed that Chacarra will be questioned about his behaviour on the course. “We are aware of an incident on the practice putting green towards the conclusion of Sunday’s Omega European Masters,” a DP World Tour spokesman told Telegraph Sport. “The confrontation involved a player, a caddie and associates of both parties but the incident was quickly dispersed by tournament officials and security personnel. All those involved will be spoken to and reminded about their future conduct.”

It emerges as Chacarra and Luna are believed to harbour resentment towards each other following a historical payment row, with the caddie working alongside the professional golfer when he secured a £3million prize for claiming LIV Golf Bangkok in 2022. Previously representing the Fireballs, Chacarra severed ties with LIV in 2024, with Bangkok standing as the player’s sole victory on the tour.

While he has subsequently obtained full European Tour status, his maiden triumph under the organisation arrived via the Hero Indian Open in March 2025. There, he gained entry through a sponsor’s invitation.

He has subsequently claimed two additional tournaments on the European Tour, capturing the KLM Open and the DS Automobiles Open d’Italia in June, as he seeks to position himself for selection in next year’s Ryder Cup under Team Europe captain Luke Donald.

Donald made clear that Chacarra was being considered for last year’s contest in New York, only for the 48-year-old to select Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka to accompany automatic qualifiers Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Hojgaard, Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.

That choice ultimately proved successful, as Team Europe claimed the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, and will now aim to retain their crown at Adare Manor in 12 months’ time. Whether Donald will be deterred by Chacarra’s recent conduct remains unclear.
