Four people have been taken to hospital after an afternoon stabbing on a high street triggered a major emergency response involving London’s Air Ambulance.
Four people have been rushed to hospital after a stabbing broke out on a busy London high street. Emergency services were called to Bromley High Street after the London Ambulance Service received reports of a violent altercation at around 2.15pm today (September 10).
Police, fire crews and paramedic teams swarmed the area alongside an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance. Officers found four men suffering from stab wounds.
Three of the men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while one remains in a critical condition. Seven men have since been arrested in connection with the attack and remain in custody.
The High Street is currently closed in both directions between Ringers Road and Ethelbert Road while a heavy police cordon remains in place, causing major gridlock across the Bromley area.
Around 15 bus routes, including the 61, 119, and 208, have been forced into detours and the nearby Ringers Road bus stop has been closed.
Stunned onlookers watched the drama unfold, with one resident posting on X: “Been watching from my balcony! Endless sirens and all the various emergency services attending.”
Despite the shock, locals praised the rapid arrival of the emergency services. One resident told MyLondon: “It is a busy town centre but not somewhere I’ve ever felt unsafe or worried about having to look over my shoulder.”
Another added: “I wouldn’t say crime is unheard of in the town centre. Both the police and fire stations are very close by so it is reassuring to know the emergency services would have been there quickly to help anyone who was injured and to shut off the area.”
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 2.19pm today (September 10) to reports of a stabbing on Bromley High Street, BR1.
“We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We treated four patients at the scene and took them all to hospital.”
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “At around 14:15hrs on Thursday, 10 September, officers were called to reports of an altercation on Bromley High Street.
“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance and found four men with stab wounds.
“Three of them were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. One is in critical condition. Seven men were arrested and they all remain in custody.
“Police enquiries continue and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public.
