Prince Harry and Earl Spencer have been accused of being ‘cut from the same cloth’ and both harbouring chips on their shoulders with damaging attacks on the monarchy
Prince Harry is “cut from the same cloth” as his uncle Earl Spencer following his endless “attacks on the monarchy“, a commentator has claimed.
The Duke of Sussex has launched a string of dramatic broadsides against the Firm since ditching royal life in 2020. TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan now claims Harry’s behaviour over the last six years puts him on equal footing with Princess Diana’s brother.
Last week, Earl Spencer alleged King Charles declared “we’ll forget her soon enough” after Diana’s tragic death in 1997. Speaking on the Daily Expresso podcast to host James Walker, the TalkTV star insisted Spencer first “attacked the institution of the monarchy” during his funeral eulogy, where he vowed Harry and Prince William would be protected by “blood family”.
Firing a fresh shot at the pair, Dolan added: “That is how much of a chip on the shoulder this guy has got. But it’s exactly the same as Harry. I mean, Harry and Charles Spencer are cut from the same cloth. Chip on the shoulder, inferiority complex and rather damaging, disruptive people.”
Earl Spencer told People Magazine that Harry is “completely fine” with the memoir, amid reports that the Duke of Sussex is planning a documentary about Diana for the 30th anniversary of her death next year.
Speaking to the press ahead of the book’s release, the earl also supported his nephew’s campaign for police protection after moving his family back to the UK last month.
There have been reports that both the Sussexes will receive an official risk assessment following their return, after a meeting of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) last week.
The earl told the BBC: “I would say that I personally worry about the fifth in line to the throne who’s served in the military not having police protection.
“As an uncle who’s seen his sister die in very, very preventable circumstances, I would veer towards protection.”
He later insisted that he did not take sides in the row between Harry and William, who are thought to have been estranged for years.
“I’m on my deceased sister’s sons’ side, both of them,” he said. “And if either of them wanted anything then I’d be equally there for them. And I never get involved in one camp or the other, except as a benign figure I hope.”
Earl Spencer added: “I hope one day it’s resolved, but I don’t know all – I certainly don’t know what’s been done in the finer detail and so I would feel intrusive if I got more involved than to say of course a mother would want her two sons to be happy together and love each other.”
