A 25-year-old cyclist was rushed to hospital after she lay motionless following a horror crash in theUCI Women’s Elite Road Race World Championship
A sports star was rushed to hospital after a horror crash left her “motionless” during the UCI Women’s Road Race World Championship.
Caroline Andersson, 25, was representing Sweden during the elite women’s event on Saturday (September 26) when she was part of a mass crash with 95km remaining on the city circuit in Montreal. The crash took out some of the main contenders for the rainbow jersey.
However, Andersson appeared to be the worst affected by the horror crash as she lay motionless for an extended period. Medics were quick to her side, and she could be seen being put in a neck brace before being rushed to hospital.

Commenting on the crash, one fan shared: “The immobility of Caroline Andersson after the fall, face down and without reaction, is terrifying.”
“That looked pretty bad for Caroline Andersson. Hopefully she will be ok,” a second shared. And another added: “That looked pretty bad. Didn’t even see her moving…”
Swedish Cycling Federation president Thomas Backteman told TNT Sports that she is conscious and receiving treatment, adding that she appeared able to move her arms and legs.
Sweden’s Julia Borgstom had stopped to help her team-mate, before abandoning the race in tears, Backteman added: “She is okay. She did not fall but stopped and helped Caroline when she crashed.
“She left the race after that and is on her way to the hotel. She is okay but it is of course a shock for her.” Australia’s Lauretta Hanson was taken to hospital as a result of the crash.
Demi Vollering took her maiden world title in Montreal, out-sprinting Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma, after she had already been reeled in by Niewiadoma and Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini (who held on for bronze).
