WARNING DISTRESSING CONTENT Yesterday (Saturday October 10) a man was mauled to death in a tiger enclosure in Yorkshire, with the wildlife park now issuing an update
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has issued an update on the tiger that mauled a man to death yesterday in one of their zoo enclosures. The man reportedly jumped off a ‘viewing platform’ and into Altai the tiger’s enclosure before shocked witnesses claimed they saw the animal dragging him away by the neck.
In a statement posted to X Yorkshire Wildlife Park said: “We would like to thank everyone who has expressed their concern following yesterday’s tragic incident. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies remain with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly lost his life.
“The park will be closed today while the staff team who were deeply affected by events receive specialist support. Many, many people have contacted us about Altai, the tiger. We can reassure everyone that he is safe and well and will not be euthanised as a result of this incident.”
The park was evacuated shortly after the tragedy and bosses later confirmed the attraction would stay closed on Sunday.
A police spokesman said: “At 1.35pm today (Saturday October 10) we received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
“The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury.
“Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
