Adelaide teenager dies in car crash, just minutes after fleeing from a police stop

A teenager has died in a road crash, just minutes after police tried to stop the car he was travelling in.

The driver, who is also a teenager, is expected to be charged over the incident. 

On Tuesday night, South Australia Police patrols saw the Holden Commodore, which had a defect notice, at Andrews Farm in Adelaide‘s north.

Officers did not chase the car when it drove off, but a short time later it crashed into a fence at the Edinburgh RAAF base.

Three people were seen running from the scene and the teenager was found lying on the ground.

The 17-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but died a short time later.

The three who fled the scene – a 16-year-old boy who was the driver, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman – were later picked up by police.

The driver is expected to be charged over the incident.

All three were taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with minor injuries.

The teenager’s death takes the SA road toll for 2022 to 53, compared to 68 at the same time last year.
