Possible sighting of missing 11-year-old girl is reported as police continue desperate search after the child’s ‘very out of character’ disappearance on Sunday evening

  • Kaitlyn Easson disappeared in Gala Park area of Galashiels in Scottish Borders
  • Police say they have a possible sighting of her walking alone in Melrose Road  
  • The 5ft 2in schoolgirl was wearing a white jumper, brown trousers and boots 

There has been a possible sighting of a missing 11-year-old girl in Galashiels, police confirmed.

Kaitlyn Easson was last seen at around 5.45pm on Sunday at the Interchange in the town centre.

Police said they have a possible further sighting of her walking alone in Melrose Road around 10 minutes later, close to the Queen Centre sports facility, heading in the direction of her home. 

There have been no other confirmed sightings since then.

Police Scotland said her disappearance is ‘very out of character’.

Police said they have a possible further sighting of Kaitlyn walking alone in Melrose Road, close to the Queen Centre sports facility, heading in the direction of her home

She is described as being around 5ft 2in, of slim build with long blonde hair.

When last seen, she was wearing a white jumper, brown trousers and boots.

A police helicopter, mountain rescue have joined the search to trace her, while police area also are making door-to-door inquiries.

​A public appeal has been launched as detectives continue to search for the girl in the area.

​Inspector Robbie Noble said: ‘This is very out of character for Kaitlyn and we are growing increasingly concerned for her.

​’Our enquiries are ongoing to trace her and I am appealing for anyone who has seen Kaitlyn or who has any information on her whereabouts to contact us.

​’We would also appeal to Kaitlyn herself to get in touch to let us know she is safe.’

A river search on Gala Water took place as emergency services look for the 11-year-old 

Police officers on patrol along Melrose Road in the area near to Gala Park, Galashiels
