Snooker ace Graeme Dott suspended forward of World Championship as a consequence of ‘courtroom proceedings’
Former World Snooker Champion Graeme Dott has been suspended from the sport just days before the World Championship qualifiers
Snooker star Graeme Dott has been suspended from the sport.
Dott, 47, who won the World Championship in 2006, will now miss the World Championships which start next month at the iconic Crucible in Sheffield.
The Scotsman was due to play in the World Championship qualifying rounds this week, but has now been suspended due to a high court case.
A WPBSA (World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association) statement read: “Graeme Dott has been suspended by the WPBSA due to a case which is scheduled to be heard before the High Court in Scotland.
“Whilst court proceedings are ongoing, it would be inappropriate for the WPBSA to make any further comment.”
The same statement was repeated on the website of the World Snooker Tour (WST), which organises the World Championship. He turned professional in 1994, cracking the top 16 for the first time in 2001.
Dott has just one World Snooker Championship to his name – beating Peter Ebdon 18-14 in 2006 to claim the title and the £200,000 jackpot. It was a long game, with Dott securing the title at 12.52am in the small hours of the morning.
The Scotsman has made it to the final on two other occasions. In 2004, two years before his sole victory, he was bested by Ronnie O’Sullivan. While in 2010, he was beaten by Neil Robertson.
Dott also won the 2007 China Open, reaching his ranking of No.2 in the world.
The Scotsman has appeared in eight other finals, most recently at the 2020 World Grand Prix, where he lost to Neil Robertson.
These days, Dott is currently 59th in the provisional end-of-season rankings. And he had been penned in for a match at the World Championship qualifiers at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield this week.
He was scheduled to play the winner of the first qualifying round tie between Wang Yuchen and Brian Cini, who will now receive a bye into the third of four qualifying rounds.
