Massive fireplace at main airport with all flights suspended after horror blaze

A massive fire broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday afternoon, forcing a suspension of all flight operations for nearly seven hours

A colossal blaze erupted at the cargo village of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Bangladesh on Saturday, taking nearly 26 hours to extinguish.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury confirmed the incident this afternoon. The inferno ignited yesterday afternoon, leading to a seven-hour suspension of all flight operations and sparking a major emergency response.

Terrifying images show the vast extent of the fire, with thick smoke engulfing the sky as crews struggled to battle it. The fire started around 2:30pm near Gate no-8 of the airport’s cargo village, quickly spreading through an area storing imported goods.

A total of 37 fire service units were dispatched to tackle the blaze, with army personnel called in to aid rescue operations and maintain order.

While there were no reported fatalities, at least 25 Ansar members sustained injuries during the firefight.

By 9pm, the fire was fully under control, according to a statement from the civil aviation ministry, which also confirmed that all flight operations had resumed.

Airport authorities stated that flight operations recommenced around 9pm last night and have since been operating as normal.

Civil Aviation Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin assured reporters at the scene that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, extraordinary footage shows the moment a have-a-go-hero used a fire extinguisher to save the life of a burning man in the middle of a busy city street. Harrowing video captured the man covered in flames staggering around a road in the Newtown area of Birmingham.

Several passers-by rush over to help, including the quick-thinking Good Samaritan who uses a fire extinguisher to quickly douse the flames, saving his life.

The disturbing footage shows how the extreme heat melted away most of victim’s clothes but incredibly he remains standing up at the end of the 40 second clip, which was filmed by someone from a residential building located on the corner of the two streets.

A second clip shows the man talking to police and fire crews who rushed to the scene following the incident, which is believed to have happened on Wednesday.

Footage obtained by Birmz Is Grime was shared widely on WhatsApp. A caption on the video read: “Newtown today. This world is horrible man.”

In the footage, a number of vehicles are parked in the road while the man is fully covered in the flames. Worried members of the public rush to the victim’s aid, with some pulling over their vehicles while driving past.
