Mick Schumacher’s ex at centre of storm after her romance with Jannik Sinner confirmed

Jannik Sinner and his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic became a talking point during his Vienna Open final win over Alexander Zverev, but not everyone was happy about it

Tennis fans were left seething over the excessive focus on Jannik Sinner’s new romantic partner during one of his recent matches.

Sinner maintained his phenomenal run of form last Sunday, overcoming Alexander Zverev in the Vienna Open final with a thrilling 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory to secure his fourth ATP Tour win of the campaign.

But while the Italian remained the main focus on the court, a significant number of spectators who had settled in to witness the gripping finale grew increasingly annoyed by how frequently cameras lingered on his model partner, Laila Hasanovic, rather than the on-court drama.

The Austrian television coverage repeatedly cut to Hasanovic, who was positioned alongside the tennis ace’s mother, throughout the broadcast. This pattern had similarly emerged during the world No. 2’s semi-final triumph over Alex De Minaur.

Social media was flooded with frustrated comments, including: “Stop focusing on her, we want to see Jannik!” As well as: “We’re tired of you focusing on her.” One exasperated fan wrote: “Enough with Laila, we want to see him.”

Speculation about the pair’s romance had circulated for a considerable amount of time before the tournament commenced. The four-time Grand Slam champion himself made their relationship official following his victory over Zverev.

Speaking to his support team in the players’ enclosure, Sinner said: “Thank you very much for your support. The work you put in, the effort. Even understanding me is not always easy, but thank you for your commitment. My family, my girlfriend, my friends and even those who follow us from home.”

Hasanovic has a history of high-profile romances. The 24-year-old model previously dated Mick Schumacher, the former Haas Formula One driver, and Jonas Wind, a Danish footballer.

Rumours suggest that Hasanovic and Schumacher called it quits earlier this year after being spotted together in the paddock multiple times since they reportedly started dating in 2022. The whispers grew louder when both were seen on a celebrity dating app in the spring.

Born in Copenhagen in 2000, Hasanovic is a graduate of Svendborg Gymnasium School. She kick-started her modelling career at a tender age and represented Denmark in the Miss Universe pageant in 2019.

Sinner, on the other hand, has always been tight-lipped about his personal life. However, he did let slip at the US Open that he was “in love”, quickly adding: “I don’t want to talk about it.”

When Italian journalists quizzed him about rumours of him being spotted with Laila in Copenhagen, he brushed them off, adding: “No, no, there was no girl. I had just some business with a couple of photo shootings there. That’s it. Nothing else.”

Before Hasanovic, Sinner was linked to fellow tennis player Anna Kalinskaya, who once dated Nick Kyrgios, and Russian model Lara Leito.
