A Place In The Sun star Jasmine Harman faced a medical emergency after her husband suffered a heart attack on the set of their new property show in Spain

The presenter and her husband Jon Boast are currently filming spin-off series Jasmine’s Renovations In The Sun at their family home in Spanish tourist hub Estepona.

But paramedics were called after Jon, 46, suffered persistent chest pains at the Costa del Sol property.

In scenes that aired on Tuesday evening, a stunned Jasmine, 50, recalled the moment he fell ill while working with a team of builders.

‘So, we’re at the hospital now,’ she told viewers. ‘Jon had a funny turn at home and I had to call an ambulance, but he’s sleeping now, having a little rest.

‘Hopefully it’s nothing serious, but we’re just waiting for some test results.’

The couple suffered heartbreak in 2016 when Jon’s sister Jo died suddenly at the age of 40 from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome – an abrupt and unexpected death, caused by cardiac arrest.

In 2024, Jasmine’s close friend Jonnie Irwin – with whom she worked on A Place In The Sun – also died, aged 50, after a long battle with cancer.

She added: ‘I thought it could be a heart attack, and obviously what happened with Jon’s sister ran through my head.

‘I could see that Jon was thinking about that as well, which was what made me want to get the ambulance there as quickly as possible.’

Addressing Channel 4 viewers from his hospital bed, Jon later confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack while working on his Spanish home.

He said: ‘Just when we thought we were getting back to normal life, or as normal as life could be, mid-renovation, and I was getting back on my feet.

‘This afternoon when we were with one of the builders I got sort of pains in my chest and tight chested, aching arms.

‘We called an ambulance and now I’m in hospital, and the blood test results suggest that I’ve had a mild heart attack.’

The new show follows the family step by step as they travel to Southern Spain to buy and renovate the rundown 1980s villa they now live in.

But Jasmine – who relocated to Spain with Jon and their two children, Albion and Joy, last year – has admitted the ‘rollercoaster’ new Channel 4 show placed a ‘strain’ on her marriage.

‘You would not believe the amount of strain my husband gave me during the renovation and filming process,’ she told Loose Women in October.

‘We moved to Spain and never had the intention of doing a renovation project. It ended up being like a real-life episode of A Place In The Sun.

WHAT IS SUDDEN ADULT DEATH SYNDROME?

Sudden adult death syndrome occurs when an otherwise healthy person passes away suddenly, with the cause likely being a heart condition.

In around one in 20 spontaneous heart-related deaths in the UK, no definite cause can be found.

During a post-mortem, a pathologist can usually detect abnormalities in a patient’s heart tissue, which may show signs of artery disease or a clot in the lung.

When nothing is found, the cause of death is deemed to be Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

This was once known as sudden adult death syndrome, however, children can also being affected.

Cot death may be partly caused by the same factors responsible for SADS.

Although unclear, SADS is thought to occur due to a disturbance in the heart’s rhythm, even if the person has no cardiovascular disease.

Due to the electrical function of the heart being affected, such disturbances can only be detected in life and not in death.

Rare diseases, such as Long QT Syndrome and sodium channel disease, can increase a person’s risk of SADS.

Many people with these conditions have no symptoms and may never be diagnosed.

If a family looses a relative due to SADS, genetic testing can be carried out to determine if they are at risk of the aforementioned diseases.

Most of these conditions are made worse with exercise and therefore, if diagnosed, a doctor may advise a person to avoid playing sports.

‘We couldn’t agree on any of the properties we saw. In the end, we saw this place and sort of looked at each other like, “Are we actually going to do this?” And we knew that it was a means to an end, a stepping stone to a life that we wanted.

‘We were super lucky. We had such fantastic teams of people doing different trades and everything kind of fell into place.’

She added: ‘That’s not to say that we didn’t have our fair share of ups and downs.

‘Pretty much everything that you could think of going wrong went wrong, plus a few extra dramatic things that happened, just to add to the rollercoaster that is renovating a house overseas.’
