Poundland 6 shops saved from axe as 12 shut ‘from as we speak’ – full checklist

Poundland has confirmed that six stores which were previously earmarked for closure will now remain open, as the retailer continues to implement its recovery plans

Six Poundland shops, teetering on the edge of closure, have been saved. The chain had previously unveiled plans to close 68 high street branches by the end of 2025 as part of a strategy to rejuvenate its fortunes.

However, reports indicate that the chain has deemed six stores worth saving. This decision is part of recovery plans launched after the company narrowly escaped collapse earlier this year, thanks to High Court approval for a significant restructuring plan, just days before it was due to exhaust its funds.

The scheme involves an injection of up to £60 million in new funding to keep the retailer running and allows it to proceed with a store closure programme. This programme will result in the closure of 68 shops, affecting approximately 1,000 workers.

However, the high street chain has now confirmed that stores in Perry Barr, Dundee, Livingston, Musselburgh, Porthcawl and Andover will stay open. These stores managed to negotiate arrangements with their landlords and secure new lease agreements.

These shops had already initiated large clearance sales, offering discounts of up to 40% on some items. All had shut their doors permanently but will now reopen in the coming weeks.

Stores which have been saved

  • Perry Barr
  • Dundee
  • Livingston
  • Musselburgh

Stores in Livingston, Musselburgh and Porthcawl were also previously saved from closure.

Back in August, the retailer revealed plans to reintroduce straightforward £1, £2 and £3 pricing throughout its UK outlets as part of efforts to revive its struggling business after narrowly escaping collapse.

The budget store has pledged to price roughly 60% of food products at £1 following successful trials conducted over five months at 17 outlets in the West Midlands.

Bosses said this strategy would see the company return “back to its roots” and signal “the end of additional price complexity”, with clear-cut pricing due to roll out across general merchandise and fashion lines in coming months.

Meanwhile, seven additional Poundland branches are currently running closing-down sales ahead of shutting their doors permanently over the next two months.

These clearances encompass all inventory at each location, spanning household goods, food items, and health and beauty ranges.

They include:

  • Leicester – November 17, 2025
  • Hornchurch – November 21, 2025
  • Ballymena – December 13, 2025
  • Oldham – December 13, 2025

Earlier, the chain confirmed that 28 other outlets were also holding final sales before permanent closure.
