Body present in seek for Ocado employee who vanished after shift as man, 66, arrested

Police searching for missing Leicestershire lad Max Walsh, who didn’t return home on Thursday (November 13), have discovered a body they believe to be his.

The death is currently being treated as “unexplained” and a 66-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the investigation, according to police. Max, 21, an Ocado employee, hadn’t been seen since he left his workplace in Dordon, Warwickshire, around 2pm on Thursday.

On Friday, Leicestershire Police located his vehicle parked 10 miles from Dordon in the village of Snarestone near Measham, in North West Leicestershire. Later that day, officers issued an urgent appeal to help locate Max, who was last seen wearing his Ocado uniform.

In the missing person appeal, police stated that both his family and officers were “extremely concerned” for his wellbeing, reports Leicestershire Live.

The body was discovered in Snarestone on Saturday afternoon, not far from where the abandoned vehicle was found.

In an update on Saturday night, Leicestershire Police said: “A body has been found in the search for missing man Max Walsh.

“The 21-year-old was last seen on Thursday afternoon when he left his place of work in Dordon, Warwickshire. He was reported missing when he failed to return home.

“A body has been found this afternoon (Saturday 15 November) near to where his vehicle was found unattended on Friday, in the Snarestone area of Leicestershire.

“Formal identification is yet to take place, but it is believed to be Max. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, and a 66-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery.”

Meanwhile, a major search has been launched after a UK navy crew member vanished off coast of Ireland overnight. Ireland’s Department of Transport said the crew member was last seen at around 10.30pm on Friday.

The department said the Irish Coast Guard received a distress call from a UK naval support vessel before 9am on Saturday. The Irish Coast Guard, the Irish Air Corps, the RNLI, the naval vessel and others are involved in a missing person search.

A spokesman said: “The Irish Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Malin Head received a distress alert from a UK Naval support vessel just before 9am this morning.

“The alert was for a missing crew member on board, last seen at approximately 10:30pm last night. The vessel was located north of Tory Island when the alert was raised.

“Malin Head Coast Guard are co-ordinating a search for the missing crew member in the sea off the northwest coast between Tory Island, Co Donegal and Eagle Island, Co Mayo.

“The search from the air is being conducted by the Coast Guard’s fixed-wing plane Rescue 120F, based in Shannon airport; Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 118, based in Sligo; and the Irish Air Corps plane, CASA 284.

“A search is also being co-ordinated at sea by the UK Naval support vessel and three RNLI all weather lifeboats based at Ballyglass, Arranmore Island and Lough Swilly. Other vessels of opportunity are also involved in the search.”
