Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Reveals What Caused Trump Breakup: ‘I Will Not Apologize For That’
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), once one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal supporters, is speaking out after the president publicly broke ties with her amid their growing rift ahead of key 2026 midterm elections.
Appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” host Dana Bash directly asked Greene what she thinks caused her breakup with Trump.

“Unfortunately, it has all come down to the Epstein files, and that is shocking,” the Georgia representative replied, before noting that she “stands” with the rape victims, survivors of sex trafficking, and children who are in “terrible sex abuse situations.”
“And I will not apologize for that. I believe the country deserves transparency and these files,” she continued. “And I don’t believe that rich, powerful people should be protected if they have done anything wrong.”
Greene denied that Trump’s beef with her stems from him “pushing her” not to run for Senate or the governor in Georgia.

After Bash brought up an X post that Greene made calling out “how hard” Trump has been “fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out” and how “it really makes you wonder what is in those files,” Bash then asked her, “Are you suggesting there’s something in the Epstein files that President Trump does not want Americans to see?”
“Well, I think that’s the part that has so many people confused,” she responded, noting that she’s spoken to multiple women who “have over and over again said that Donald Trump did nothing wrong.”
Greene, who in September threatened to use a constitutional immunity rule to reveal sex offenders from Epstein’s trafficking ring, claimed that she has “no idea what’s in the files.”

In a scathing Truth Social post, Trump withdrew his support for “wacky” and “ranting Lunatic” Greene while accusing her of having “gone Far Left.”
In a separate post Saturday, Trump blasted “traitor” Greene as a “a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!”
Speaking with Bash on Sunday, Greene called Trump’s remarks “hurtful.”

“The most hurtful thing he said, which is absolutely untrue, is [that] he called me a ‘traitor,’” she said. “And that is so extremely wrong, and those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”
Despite the right-wing leader’s heated words aimed at her, Greene declared that she still “supports him and his administration,” adding, “And I support them in delivering the campaign promises we made to the American people.”
She then recalled the efforts she said she put forth to stand by Trump when she claimed “no one else did.”

“I stood with President Trump when virtually no one else did. Campaigned all over the country, spent millions of my own dollars helping him get elected, and I think that’s incredibly important.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Greene said that it’s “in my heart” to “end the toxic fighting in politics.”
“This has been going on for years and it has divided our country, split up friends and families, neighbors, and it’s not solving our problems,” she said.

When Bash mentioned that she had never heard Greene “speak out” about the president’s many attacks or criticism aimed at other people until it was directed at her, the politician admitted that Bash’s comments were “fair criticism.”
“I would like to say humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country, and it’s been something I’ve thought about a lot especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated,” she said.
Greene added, “I’m only responsible for myself and my own words and actions… I’m committed, and I’ve been working on this a lot lately, to put down the knives in politics. I really just want to see people being kind to one another.”

Wrapping up their conversation, Bash then asked Greene if she foresees a situation in which she and Trump can reconcile, and whether she thinks she has a future in the GOP.
“Well, I certainly hope we can make up … I certainly hope to see that happen,” she responded.
