Kate Lawler, 45, breaks down in tears over ‘turbulent’ menopause signs and admits she feels ‘powerless’

Kate Lawler couldn’t hold back her tears as she bravely opened up about her ‘turbulent’ battle with perimenopause in a new interview on Tuesday.

The presenter, 45, admitted that she has been ‘masking’ her true feelings by claiming she is doing OK with her health as she spoke to Dr. Naomi Potter on her Is It Hot in Here? podcast.

The former Big Brother star explained how she has ‘anxiety’ and feels ‘powerless’ as she just wants to be ‘the person I was before’.

Breaking down in tears, Kate openly discussed her health, saying: ‘I get emotional talking about it. I always feel like it’s exhausting because having the job that I have, I constantly have to mask, I’m okay.

‘At the moment, I just feel like I’m not. I feel like I’m a nightmare to live with – I feel sorry for my husband.

‘I feel like I’m powerless and questioned everything I do, like, does anyone like me? Do my friends? I feel so lost with who I am.

It was when she looked back at videos from ‘a couple of years ago’ on her Instagram, and saw ‘how happy’ she was that it ‘really hit’ her.

She continued: ‘I looked at Instagram videos and saw how happy I was and I feel like I’ve changed so much and I just thought, you know what? I wish I could just be the person I was.

‘The anxiety I have, its health anxiety I’m so scared to even drink alcohol and since I’ve had a kid I’m so scared.’

Dr. Potter told Kate that she doesn’t ‘have to feel like this’, but the mother-of-one admitted she’s reluctant to go on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) – the traditional treatment for perimenopause.

‘I wish I just wasn’t so funny about the HRT, like, I wish I just listened to the menopause doctor’, she said.

Instead, Kate uses oestrogen-based moisturiser, because she’s ‘scared’ of HRT.

She added: ‘I’m also reluctant to taking anti-depressants and I’m reluctant because I’m like this is how I feel now until I’m through menopause.

‘I go home and I cry and we mask it. I do feel like the patches I felt better than the cream but they don’t stay on and I can’t remember to change them twice a week.

It comes after Kate revealed she has ‘broken the law’ and ended up locked in a dispute with her neighbour.

The Big Brother winner took to Instagram to share that she had got herself into ‘trouble’ with her neighbour after painting the back of their shed.

Kate revealed that her gardener had painted it because she didn’t like the colour of it, but her neighbour was furious she had done so without permission and the TV personality later discovered it was in fact illegal, and considered trespassing.

She quickly took to social media to explain her predicament and sparked a nationwide debate as some agreed with her that they wouldn’t care, while others were horrified that she had painted someone else’s property.

Perimenopause

According to the Mayo Clinic, perimenopause is the time before menopause when your body is getting ready to stop having periods.

Perimenopause is sometimes called the menopausal transition.

Women start perimenopause at different ages. You may notice signs, such as your periods becoming irregular, sometime in your 40s. But some women notice changes as early as their 30s or as late as their 50s.

During perimenopause, estrogen — the main female hormone in your body — rises and falls. Your periods may get longer or shorter. You may skip ovulation, which means your ovaries don’t release an egg.

You also may have symptoms such as hot flashes, trouble sleeping and vaginal dryness.

Once you’ve gone 12 months in a row without a menstrual period, you’ve reached menopause and perimenopause is over.
