Inside toe-sucking, intercourse and ‘vulgar’ world of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

Sarah Ferguson and her ex-hubby Andy have been embroiled in scandal in recent years. But their marriage was not exactly plain-sailing either, as we recall below

The former Duke and Duchess of York were once said to be the “happiest divorced couple in the world.” The pair have continued to live together despite their split in 1996, ten years after they tied the knot.

But both Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have been rocked by scandal in recent years and are being booted out of the plush royal pad by angry King Charles after new bombshell allegations emerged over their links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

And their marriage itself was a wild ride of infidelity and sex scandals, with the former playboy prince said to have bedded “more than a dozen women” in the first year of marriage. Fergie enjoyed several affairs of her own with “reckless abandon”, one royal book claimed.

The relationship got off the ground thanks to Princess Diana, who was friends with Fergie, and introduced the pair at Royal Ascot in 1985 in the hope that something might spark between the pair. It did. And by 1986, they were married.

The Queen’s second son, dubbed Randy Andy, had earned himself a reputation throughout the 1980s. But despite settling down with Fergie, relationship found itself on thin ice though in 1992.

Paparazzi images emerged which appeared to to show Fergie getting cosy with her financial advisor John Bryan. Pictures showed the two could be seen “smooching, snuggling, nuzzling, embracing, back-rubbing and generally carrying on”.

One of the images infamously captured Bryan having a cheeky suck of Ferguson’s toe. The Queen was allegedly less than impressed. According to the Guardian, she blasted Sarah as being “vulgar, vulgar, vulgar”.

Penny Junor, a royal biographer, said the images spelt disaster for Fergie’s relationship with the Palace establishment. She said: “She [Ferguson] was at Balmoral [Castle] when those photographs came out. The family came down for breakfast and there was Fergie in this shocking scene and that was the end.”

The divorce came four years later with Fergie striking up a deal with Queen Elizabeth II. She told Harper’s Bazaar at the time: “I didn’t want a divorce but had to because of circumstance.

“It’s not right for a princess of the royal house to be commercial, so Andrew and I decided to make the divorce official so I could go off and get a job.”

Fergie said the only thing she wanted from the divorce was “friendship, not money”. She still, came away with a settlement of £15,000 per year. And she seemed to stand by Andy, who has been stripped of his royal titles by his big brother.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Sarah once said: “All I can say is that we’re happy with the way we are right now. We always say we are the most contented divorced couple in the world. We’re divorced to each other, not from each other.

“We are co-parents who support each other and believe that family is everything. I’m proud of the job we have done together in bringing up our children and sustaining a strong family unit. Our bywords are communication, compromise and compassion.”

In an interview in 2018 with the Mail, she said: “July 23, 1986, was the happiest day of my life. Andrew is the best man I know. What he does for Britain is incredible; no one knows how hard he works for his country. My duty is to him. I am so proud of him. I stand by him and always will.”

She added: “We stand up for each other, fight for each other. We’re totally respectful of each other’s positions and thoughts and we listen to each other. Our children listen to us, too. And we sit around the table and have afternoon tea together. It’s a very important part of our lives.”
