Ashes hero undergoes wonderful physique transformation – however denies he is a bodybuilder
A star of the last England team to win the Ashes in Australia looks completely different after retiring from cricket
Ashes hero Chris Tremlett has undergone a remarkable physical transformation since retiring from cricket. Tremlett played a crucial role in the last England side to triumph in an Ashes series Down Under back in 2011.
The 44-year-old secured 17 wickets throughout that memorable tour, including the final dismissal in the fifth Test to clinch a 3-1 series win for Andrew Strauss’ team. That Ashes triumph was the pinnacle of Tremlett’s career, which was eventually brought to a premature end four years later due to persistent injuries.
It’s been 14 years since Tremlett helped steer England to an achievement that Stokes’ current side will attempt to replicate in the upcoming weeks. Upon stepping away from professional cricket, Tremlett launched into a new fitness regime.
The imposing fast bowler, standing 6ft7in tall, had earned the nickname Twiggy in his early playing days because of his lanky build. He now has a completely different appearance after dedicating himself to weight training in retirement.
The ex-Hampshire and Surrey player’s muscular physique left supporters amazed when he was photographed during the last Ashes series in 2023. Despite his impressive physique, Tremlett has previously made clear that he has no ambitions to enter competitive bodybuilding.
“I’m not a bodybuilder and I’m not trying to be a strength athlete,” Tremlett told the Daily Mail in 2020. “I don’t have any aspirations to stand on a stage with a pair of pants on flexing my muscles.
“It’s not really my thing. I like to do this my own way. I don’t take steroids because it’s an unhealthy thing to do and that’s not really the route I’m going down. I’m just trying to improve and we’ll see what happens.”
Tremlett often posts workout snaps with his wife, the mother of his two sons. The former England cricketer has now ventured into property investment but recently took a moment to reflect on his fitness journey after stepping away from cricket 10 years ago.
“Ten years since retiring from cricket and starting a very different journey,” Tremlett wrote on Instagram. “In that time a lot has changed since being a driven single man all that time ago.
“One thing that hasn’t changed and what has always been my number 1 priority is looking after my health and fitness.
“I have always been strong minded with narrow focus and as resilient as anyone else I know, knowing the things I’ve been through. Many people will chase the latest FAD but one thing that has always kept my mind/body strong is prioritising my body and fitness.
“This has worked for me since the age of 18 when I discovered the gym and 26 years later nothing has changed. Do what works for you but constantly being out of your comfort zone in many situations in life will improve life from my own experience.
“Comfort feels nice but if you stay there too long progress is slow and you’ll be the last to evolve.”
