Hunt for ‘greatest darts fan’ to spend each single day on the Ally Pally

Darts has massively caught on as the new popular sport among the masses, and now a drinks company is looking to send some of the most keen fans to the most famous darts competition

A drinks firm is searching for Britain’s “biggest fan of darts” to spend every day at the World Championships. Fireball want to find the country’s most dedicated arrows lover to spend three weeks cheering on the action at Alexandra Palace this festive season.

The lucky winner will stay in a branded caravan parked outside the iconic London venue for the entire tournament. The fan will chronicle their experience to fellow fans across the country, acting as a stand-in for every supporter who wishes they could be there in person.

Teen sensation Luke Littler, 18, is favourite to regain his Paddy Power World Championship crown that he won last year. For 21 days, the darts “Final Boss” will be immersed in pure darts mayhem; from the fan village to the front row, capturing every roar, missed double and thriller in a true money-can’t-buy experience made for those with daring, darting dedication.

The company is looking for a true darts addict who would be willing to call in sick to work and even break up with a partner to watch the tungsten thrown. Lorenzo Farronato, spokesperson at Fireball, said: “We wanted to find the biggest fan in Britain; someone who’d bunk off work, skip Christmas drinks and maybe even risk a breakup, all for the love of the darts.

“Because at Fireball HQ, we are all about pushing boundaries in the name of fun, sport and sporting fans. The darts Final Boss is that they’ve turned devotion into an art form, and we love to see it.”

It comes as controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan has challenged reigning champ Luke to a face-off at Ally Pally at the World Championships. Littler, 18, is still riding high after securing another piece of silverware thanks to his win at the Players Championship Finals just one week ago.

As part of the build-up towards the show, betting agent Paddy Power also opened up its own promotional campaign, partnering with Prostate Cancer UK. In exchange for a donation, people can enter to take part in the Darts of Destiny, and are given nine darts in the hopes of scoring a top 180, bagging a massive £180,000.

Former Britain’s Got Talent star Piers saw the perfect opportunity and opted to throw his hat into the ring, calling out Luke “The Nuke” Littler. Posting a video to his social media channels, he revealed he donated £500 to the campaign, in the hopes of facing off against the darts prodigy.

“I quite fancy doing this. About time Luke the Nuke came up against Monsoon Morgan.,” he said. “What they don’t know is that I played for the Royal Oak B team — darts legends, as we became — in the village of Newick in East Sussex, where we ended up beating everybody.

“And I was known as ‘Jockey’ Morgan, which I later changed to ‘Monsoon’ Morgan. And there’s a reason — I don’t lose at darts.”

Luke is set to start the defence of his title with the world No.95 Darius Labanauskas at the tournament. When asked about what he made of the draw, Luke said it “wasn’t going to be easy” but he said he was up for the challenge.
