Man, 55, discovered useless in Oldham home as Greater Manchester Police launch homicide probe

A murder probe has been launched following a man’s death after a disturbance in Oldham.

Emergency crews rushed to a house on Plumpton Close, in Royton, at approximately 7.50pm on Saturday evening (December 6). Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to reports of a disturbance at the address.

Officers and medics attended to a 55-year-old man at the location. Tragically, he was declared dead at the scene despite paramedics’ best attempts to save him, reports the Manchester Evening News. A 59-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murder and is being held for questioning this morning (Monday), say police.

Investigations continue and GMP is appealing for anyone with information, or relevant CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Louise Kelly, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Any incident of this nature is naturally shocking and I fully appreciate that the community will be worried and shocked by this news.

“However, we are treating this as an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider public. We have one man in custody who was arrested at the scene and are working to establish the full circumstances of the man’s death.

“As we continue our work, I would urge anyone who has any information regarding the events of last night to please come forward. This includes anyone who saw or heard anything or has any footage from the area at the time. Any information you provide could be of great benefit as we work to get justice.”

Meanwhile, a sinister mystery shrouds the final moments of a cryptocurrency fraudster and his spouse, who were discovered entombed in concrete and interred in desert sands after reportedly witnessing each other’s brutal torture and murder.

The corpses of Roman Novak, 38, and his 37-year-old wife Anna were unearthed wrapped in heavy plastic sheeting in an isolated desert location in the UAE, with chemical substances having been deployed to eliminate DNA evidence. Worried family members first reported the pair missing in October.

Their bodies had allegedly been located previously, but officials were still deliberating whether to repatriate them to Russia for forensic analysis and interment. Russian publication Komsomolskaya Pravda, quoting a source familiar with the probe, stated: “They were poured into concrete. The remains were found back in November.”

It’s understood the duo were enticed to a hired property in the Emirati town of Hatta, believing they were encountering prospective backers, but were instead subjected to torture to gain access to their digital currency accounts before being murdered.

Disturbing final text messages dispatched to acquaintances claimed they were ‘stuck in the mountains on the Oman border’ and desperately required £152,000. Read the full story here.
