Yves Bissouma points apology over hippy crack video as Tottenham star claims he’s affected by ‘melancholy and paranoia’ after dropping £1m in break-ins at his residence
Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has claimed he had inhaled laughing gas as he struggled with the trauma of suffering burglaries at his home earlier this year.
Footage of Bissouma inhaling laughing gas was published last week by the Sun, with the video having reportedly been taken in the early hours on November 3rd.
Bissouma was said to have sent it to a woman who had been invited to join him at a party in London.
The Tottenham midfielder, 29, has now issued an apology for the video and claimed it came in the aftermath of losing nearly £1million in burglaries at his home in July.
Bissouma said thieves had taken luxury designer watches, jewellery and designer bags.
‘I’m a strong person. I’m a mentally and physically strong African man. I’ve faced battles and storms before, but these incidents, they broke something in me I didn’t even know could break,’ Bissouma told the Sun.

‘I’ve asked myself, ‘Why me?’, more times than I can count. I hate feeling like a victim, but what I lost wasn’t just material.
‘It was what the trauma added to my life — fear, panic, depression, paranoia, sleepless nights and a constant loss of trust.
‘I don’t want to talk about it (the balloon) anymore because it’s over. But to the fans, I am very sorry.’
Bissouma added that he had sometimes slept at Tottenham’s training ground after being ‘too scared’ to sleep at home.
It came after Bissouma had reportedly been the victim of two previous attacks.
Bissouma was allegedly pepper sprayed by two robbers while holidaying with his girlfriend in Cannes in June 2024, where they were claimed to have made off with his ‘£260,000 watch’.
Thieves were claimed to have tried to break into his house in November 2024 by breaking through his front door, leading to Bissouma fleeing out the back.
Compounding a torrid few months, there were court revelations in November of how he had been a victim of fraud with £800,000 stolen from a bank account with Coutts.

Tottenham had confirmed last week that the club were investigating the latest video of Bissouma.
Possession of nitrous oxide – also known as hippy crack – for recreational use has been a criminal offence in the United Kingdom since 2023. Possession can result in a two-year prison sentence.
Bissouma was suspended by Tottenham at the start of last season after inhaling laughing gas.
Then Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou left the midfielder out for one match, before he returned to the squad.
Bissouma’s suspension came despite the midfielder issuing an apology for a ‘severe lack of judgement’.
‘I want to apologise for these videos, this was a severe lack of judgment,’ Bissouma said at the time.
‘I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.’
Bissouma eventually worked his way back into Tottenham’s side, making 44 appearances last season, including playing the full 90 minutes in their Europa League final win last May.
Bissouma has not played for Tottenham under Thomas Frank after being dropped at the start of the season for persistent lateness
The Mali international has not played for the club this season, after being dropped by manager Thomas Frank at the start of the campaign for persistent lateness.
Bissouma was then left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad, but Frank claimed there was still a way back for the midfielder at the club.
His prospects were damaged further after sustaining an ankle injury when representing Mali in their World Cup qualifiers last month, which has kept him on the sidelines.
Daily Mail Sport reported last month that Tottenham had planned to trigger the option to preserve his value if he is not sold in January.
There was fleeting interest in the summer from Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray but it came to nothing. Spurs wanted more than £10m for a player who cost them £25m from Brighton in 2022.
Bissouma, who has been in the Premier League since 2018, when he joined Brighton for £15m from Lille, is settled and thought to favour continuing his career in England.
