Gerwyn Price’s beautiful weight reduction and why rival claimed he’d get ‘overwhelmed up’

Gerwyn Price is aiming for his second title at the World Darts Championship after undergoing a dramatic change

Darts icon Gerwyn Price has discussed his stunning weight loss after a rival claimed he could get beaten up due to his transformation. The 40-year-old has dropped a staggering three stone as he now aims to win his second World Darts Championship.

‘The Iceman’ has previously been candid about his weight loss journey. He revealed how shedding the pounds has significantly boosted both his mental wellbeing and physical condition, as he guns for the London-based tournament in December and January.

The outspoken star said: “I’ve been playing right through losing weight. It’s gradually happened over the last six months or so. You know how much darts is on these days, no chance for rest.

“While I’ve been playing, I’ve been losing weight slowly, and it’s been working. Just mentally, I feel a lot better in myself.

“When I’m putting on a medium shirt instead of an XL, it feels a little bit better. As long as I’m confident in myself and feeling better when I go up on stage, it can only help.”

Whilst most would celebrate Price’s transformation, particularly given his own acknowledgement of the positive effects, not everyone shares this view.

The World No. 13 faced criticism over his altered physique from former Dutch darts professional Vincent van der Voort.

Van der Voort targeted Price during a podcast appearance earlier this year. He suggested Price had shed excessive muscle mass and might even find himself “beaten up” by fellow competitors.

“He used to have a lot of muscle – he was massive,’ Van der Voort said. “Now he looks like a kid. Pretty soon, he’ll be getting beaten up by [25-year-old darts star] Bradley Brooks.

“He used to be so broad, always in the gym. But he’s gone too far now. He really should put some weight back on – this isn’t good.”

Van der Voort added: “It’s not that I’m worried about him – for all I care, he can lose even more – but it’s meant as friendly advice.

“I’d tell him to eat a bit more. He owns a fish and chip shop, so that shouldn’t be a problem.”

Price evidently took exception to these remarks. Turning to Instagram, the Welsh ace shared a collection of photos highlighting his striking physical transformation.

His message, apparently directed at his detractors and possibly Van der Voort, read: “Concerned about my weight loss?
