WW3 fears rise as Putin ramps up manufacturing of ‘new terrifying’ nuclear missile

Amid growing fears of World War 3, Ukraine’s intelligence warns that Russia, under Vladimir Putin, is accelerating the serial production and modernisation of the Oreshnik ballistic missile

Fears of World War 3 are mounting as Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin has reportedly ramped up the production of a new terrifying nuclear missile. The Ukrainian intelligence has consequently warned the weapon was being modernised for even deadlier strikes.

The Head of Ukraine ’s Foreign Intelligence Service Oleh Ivashchenko has reportedly claimed that Russia is planning the serial production and modernisation of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, further strengthening its nuclear potential.

The Oreshnik ballistic missile is reported to be a modernised, intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) developed by Russia.

It is said to be essentially an upgraded version of the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile.

Ivashchenko told Ukrinform : “Russia intends to expand the serial production of the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile and is considering options for its modernisation to enhance the strike capability of its nuclear warhead.”

He further stressed that the programme is receiving priority funding from Russia’s National Wealth Fund, RBC Ukraine reported.

Highlighting the strategic significance of the Oreshnik missile within Russia’s military-industrial sector, Ivashchenko revealed that its serial production involves participation from over 50 Russian companies.

These reportedly include prominent institutions such as the Scientific Research Institute of Command Instruments, the Central Research Institute of Shipbuilding Machinery, JSC Krasnodar Instrument-Making Plant Kaskad, JSC Kalugapribor, JSC Kaluga Electromechanical Plant, JSC Priboy, JSC Research Institute Soliton, and JSC Research Institute of Technical Systems Sinvent.

Ivashchenko pointed out that the Oreshnik is essentially a revamped version of the RS-24 Yars, originally developed in the early 2000s.

The main innovation, he explained, is that “Oreshnik has two stages instead of three, which improves efficiency and manoeuvrability during launch.”

Ukrainian intelligence has called on the global community to keep a vigilant eye on Russia’s expanding missile capabilities, alerting that “the expansion of serial production and the modernisation of nuclear systems pose a direct threat to the security of Europe and the wider world.”

The Oreshnik missile is reportedly being stationed in Belarus, with Europe as its intended target.
