The evening comes to a close

And that, is that!

Our hosts bring and end to the night as McIlroy poses with his trophy. What a chaotic, but lovely, two hours.

McIlroy is your champion!

McIlroy: ‘It has been the year that dreams are made of’

A lovely look from Rory as he heads to the stage once again. What a deserving winner.

Rory McIlroy, BBC Sports Personality of the Year:

Wow. First of all I would like to congratulate all the other finalists, what you have all done, I know how much hard work and dedication it takes, it is a pleasure just to be in this room.

This year has been the year I made my dreams come true, from Augusta to the Ryder Cup. It has been the year the dreams are made of. Thanks to the public, my family, my mum and dad, they sacrificed so much for me.

My wife Erika, my daughter Poppy, they are what holds me together, my rock. They are in America, I can’t wait to see them tomorrow and celebrate with them tomorrow. Thanks for all you have done for me over the years, I love you.

Thanks to the BBC, I remember looking forward to this night, seeing who was going to win and hopefully I can challenge to get it again next year.

Breaking:RORY McILROY IS SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR!

Keely Hodgkinson and Thierry Henry are here to announce it…

In second place, Ellie Kildunne.

And the winner is… HE’S DONE IT!

As expected, the golfer from Northern Ireland has taken home the main gong after a stellar year.

To recap: he rolled back the years when he won the Masters, completing the Grand Slam with a dramatic play-off victory in a true euphoria moment.

He would then Team Europe to Ryder Cup victory in the United States, as he got the better of a hostile crowd – giving as good as he got – securing three-and-a-half points for his side

Congratulations, Rory!

Time for the big one

It is indeed time for the big one.

We are a bit behind schedule so it’s being rushed, and the final award is about to be handed out.

Kildunne, McIlroy, Norris…

Here we go.

Breaking:Team Europe win Team of the Year

We’re now going to learn who the Team of the Year is…

The England women’s football team, Team Europe and the England Women’s rugby team are shortlisted.

AP McCoy and Hannah Cockroft are here to present the award.

The winners are Team Europe!

Rory McIlroy, Team Europe:

As a lot of other sportspeople know, it is an absolute honour to be part of these teams. The England teams are incredible.

We are up here as two of 12 players but we also had Luke Donald, the vice captains, the backroom team and we couldn’t have done it without them.

Breaking:Michelle Agyemang wins Young Sports Personality of the Year

We recap rugby league and Hull KR’s success, as well as boxing, with Eddie Hearn taking us through Eubanks vs Benn, Fabio Wardley’s win and Usyk vs Dubois. A little tribute for MMA too.

And voting is closed!

Now we will learn who is the Young Sports Personality of the Year… Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and here to reveal it.

The nominees are Luke Littler, Davina Perrin and Michelle Agyemang.

The winner is… MICHELLE AGYEMANG!

She hobbles to the stage – seriously injured at the minute, of course.

Michelle Agyemang, Young Sports Personality of the Year:

Wow, thank you so much. I am so grateful to the BBC and my team-mates, my coaches and my family. I love you. And a big thank you to God.

Remembering those who have left us

The Phantom of the Opera choice, formed to mark the 40th anniversary of the Bradford City fire, play as we remember the sporting stars who are no longer with us.

Billy Bonds, Tony Brook, Ray French, Robin Smith, David Lawrence, Billy Vigar, Anne Dunham, Lenny Wilkens, Shane Richardson, Georgia O’Connor, Ricky Hatton, Dennis Law, Dickie Bird, Eddie Jordan, George Foreman, Angela Mortimer Barrett and Andre Silva and Diogo Jota are just some of the name in a touching tribute.

Breaking:Sarina Wiegman wins Coach of the Year

The nominees here include Andy Farrell, Sarina Wiegman and Luke Donald.

Let’s see who takes it – Tommy Fleetwood and Dame Denise Lewis will present the award.

And the winner is…

SARINA WIEGMAN! Isn’t she just great? A relentless winner – we are so lucky to have her.

Sarina Wiegman, Coach of the Year:

It’s an absolute honour to be here again. Thanks to the BBC and the judges. I would also like to congratulate the coaches who have been so successful with their teams.

I would like to thank the FA – they are always so supportive. This award is for the players and staff. I have been part of an incredible team – we needed to be at our best but we were so together but the togetherness in this team was so incredible.

Breaking:The top three

We hear about Scotland’s World Cup qualification from Iain Sterling.

No Scotland, no party he says. There’s then a bit of a dance… for some reason.

Oh, here we go, we’re going to find out who the top three are!

Here we go:

  • Ellie Kildunne
  • Rory McIlroy
  • Lando Norris

That means Littler, Hampton and Kelly are out – and voting is now open again!

World Sports Star

We can’t a yearly sports summary without a bit of tennis and Wimbledon!

That’s followed by the athletics, and the vote is then frozen!

The World Sports Star is next… and Armand Duplantis takes it!

The man of a million world records… it feels!

He beats Mariona Caldentey, Terence Crawford, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Shohei Ohtani and Mohamed Salah to the award.

Kildunne: ‘The impact has been beyond what we could have dreamed of’

Ellie Kildunne is the final contender we hear from, and there’s a lovely story about how she never saw being the only girl in her teams growing up as a barrier:

Ellie Kildunne, World Cup winner:

I am so scared of getting tackled so that’s why I run around people. But I also love the freedom and have the belief of my team-mates and coaches around me.

I was scared my World Cup was over, I didn’t know what it meant. Something needed to happen!

I am really busy! I could do with going home for a bit. I am looking forward to it but the impact the whole team has had has been beyond anything we could ever have dreamed of.

Stratford: ‘It was about keeping calm’

We now enjoy a recap of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. And the team is here!

Zoe Stratford:

We have a lot of leaders in the group. Some of the other girls are probably better at motivating, but in the last week it was about keeping calm and sticking to the process.

Maud Muir:

I like scrapbooking but we enjoy our company together. Managing to go home, with it being a home World Cup, helps too.

Sadia Kabeya:

Competition is one of the great things. Always having someone to chase, someone to learn from. It brings the best out of you.
