Harry’s UK return: security woes and royal rifts continue
- Prince Harry is set to return to the UK this summer for Invictus Games events and WellChild charity work, but hopes of a royal reconciliation look increasingly unlikely.
- The Duke of Sussex will be back on home soil to mark the one-year countdown to the Birmingham Invictus Games. However, King Charles won’t be meeting with his youngest son or grandchildren Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, during his planned US state visit.
- The ongoing security row continues to plague Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family. The Prince hasn’t brought his children to the UK in almost four years, insisting it’s not safe without proper police protection.
- A Home Office source revealed the government feels “nervous” about restoring Harry’s automatic police protection, stating: “There is nervousness among certain members of the committee who fear a public backlash.” However, security experts disagree, with sources claiming “Police and security chiefs believe that he absolutely must have it due to the extant threat.”
- Harry currently operates under a “bespoke” arrangement requiring three months’ notice for visits, with security decided case-by-case. Last year he revealed his father King Charles “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff” following his unsuccessful legal battle to restore protection.
- A source told the Sunday Times: “There is not a world in which he brings the kids back unless there is an enhanced security package around them. If the King wants to see the kids, all he needs to do is invite them over and it can happen.”
- Relations between Harry and the Royal Family remain at rock bottom, with the Duke and Prince William reportedly “completely estranged.”
