Alejandro Garnacho gave a damning reaction to Ruben Amorim’s sacking by Manchester United.
The Portuguese boss was dismissed from his role on Monday morning after launching a bizarre outburst at his position in the club and the Red Devils hierarchy after the 1-1 draw at Leeds United on Sunday.
United have issued a statement confirming Amorim’s sacking. It read: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
Minutes before United released the statement, it was reported by numerous sources that Amorim had been given the boot. One of those journalists to report the impending sacking was Fabrizio Romano, who posted on Instagram about the news.
And eagle-eyed fans noticed that it wasn’t just United supporters who were pleased about his sacking as Garnacho’s official Instagram liked the post.
The now-Chelsea winger has since unliked the post but multiple screenshots appeared online showing his account in the likes section.
Garnacho publicly hit out at Amorim following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May, criticising the manager’s tactics and his selection on the bench.
Speaking after the match, Garnacho said: “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know.
“The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”
Amorim is then reported to have told the 21-year-old that he better ‘pray’ he finds a new club before signing for Chelsea in a reported £40million deal.
Garnacho has failed to shine so far at Stamford Bridge, scoring just one Premier League goal in 13 games and was left an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
