Hundreds of UK colleges closed as Storm Goretti chaos hits – see full checklist

Dozens of schools across the UK have announced they will be closed on Friday after an the amber weather warning has been issued.

Britain has been battered by Storm Goretti overnight as chaos on the roads, railway and airports is seeing cancellations and delays today (January 9).

Storm Goretti has left tens of thousands of Brit with no power with more facing widespread power cuts.

It comes after the wild, wintry weather brought 99mph winds while a rare red warning was issued by the Met Office for “dangerous, stormy” winds in the South West.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is also in force across much of Scotland, where more than 250 schools are due to remain closed on Friday, including more than 150 in Aberdeenshire, dozens in the Highlands and Aberdeen, plus a number in Moray.

Dozens of schools in Birmingham have also closed after two of its local airports were forced to close the runways.
