Both bride and groom killed at their very own wedding ceremony reception in horror explosion
The horrific explosion which claimed the lives of the bride and groom occurred as guests and the couple were sleeping at the house, causing part of the building to collapse
A wedding reception has ended in tragedy after a gas cylinder explosion claimed the lives of at least eight people, including the bride and groom, according to police and officials.
The blast took place while guests who had congregated to celebrate the couple were asleep in the house, leading to a partial collapse of the building, police reported. Seven individuals were injured in the incident.
Hanif Masih, the groom’s father, said his son had been married the day before the tragic incident and the newlywed couple, along with family members and guests, were sleeping in the house at the time of the horrific incident.
In an official statement, the police confirmed the explosion happened in a residential district in the city centre in Islamabad, Pakistan. Sahibzada Yousaf, a government administrator, stated authorities were notified about the explosion early on Sunday and investigations are still underway.
He also mentioned several neighbouring houses suffered damage due to the blast. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, as per a statement from his office. He instructed health authorities to ensure the best possible care for the injured and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Many Pakistani homes rely on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders due to low natural gas pressure, and these cylinders have been linked to fatal accidents caused by gas leaks. Police stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The chairman of Pakistan’s Senate, Yusuf Raza Gilani, called it “a heart-wrenching incident that turned celebrations into mourning”.
“Such incidents demand that relevant departments fulfil their responsibilities seriously and ensure safety measures,” he said in a statement reported by local media.
The Daily Star previously reported on a heart-breaking incident where a bride died of a sudden heart attack on her wedding day, leading to her family shockingly substituting her younger sister in her place rather than call off the wedding altogether.
The young bride, Hetal, was set to wed Vishal, son of Ranabhai Butabhai Algotar of Nari village in the Indian state of Gujarat. But as the elaborate ceremony began, Hetal complained of feeling dizzy and then suddenly fainted. Her relatives rushed her to hospital, where doctors said she had died of a heart attack.
But rather than scrap the wedding, Hetal’s father – a local man named Jinabhai Rathore – suggested that Vishal marry his other daughter instead.
