The “father of alien archaeology” has declared the pyramids were not constructed by human hands and said he has discovered evidence to prove it.
The debate over who built the pyramids has raged on for years as many theorists have turned to the stars believing they were constructed by existential visitors. In his 1968 bestseller “Chariots of the Gods,” Von Däniken claimed alien “astronauts” visited early civilizations, including the ancient Egyptians and Mayans, and shared advanced technology.
Von Däniken, who died earlier this month – aged 90 – was one of the most outspoken theorists on the matter as his peers would dub him the “Father of Ancient Alien Archaeology“.
The author pointed to the pyramids’ precise engineering and mysteries surrounding construction methods, striking mathematical and astronomical coincidences as proof the pyramids came from existential origins. The Swiss author insisted the engineering precision found in the Great Pyramid could not be explained by human skill alone.

Due to this von Däniken argued these mysteries made it clear the pyramids were not constructed just by humans.
In his book “Chariots of the Gods” von Däniken stated other worldly aliens promised Egyptian pharaohs a “second life” and pointed to this to explain why the Egyptians rulers were mummified and buried with treasures – awaiting for reveal. Von Däniken believed these god-like aliens would return one day and reawaken these deceased mummified bodies upon their return.
In “Chariots of the Gods” von Däniken wrote: “An artificial mountain some 490 feet high and weighing 31,200,000 tons stands there as an incredible achievement, and this monument is supposed to be nothing more than the burial place of an extravagant king! Anyone who can believe that explanation is welcome to it…”
“Drawings and sagas actually indicated that the ‘gods’ promised to return from the stars to awaken the well-preserved bodies to new life,’ he added Egyptian carvings showed beings ‘visiting’ ancient people.”
Despite his conviction, scientists and archaeologists have frequently challenged his beliefs that alien technology was used to erect the pyramids. The author of Portraits of Alien Encounters Revisited, Nigel Watson, has challenged “Father of Alien Archaeology’s” assertions and said his theories were rooted in belief rather than evidence.
Watson stated: “At a time when there was the excitement surrounding the Apollo moon missions and the release of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, Daniken used a mixture of speculation to link virtually any ancient structure with alien visitations.”
“Thumbing his nose at mainstream archaeology, he claimed aliens either directly built the pyramids or helped humans to build them. It did not matter what sceptics said, as this was all based on belief rather than facts.”
He added: “He exploited these beliefs, and he did not care whether they were true or not; they made him rich and famous. Some will see him as a cynical conman, others as a fearless pioneer who fought mainstream science.”
