Cleveland Browns appoint Todd Monken as new head coach… and first job is to make main Shedeur Sanders name

The Cleveland Browns have hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their new head coach.

Monken beat Jim Schwartz and Nate Scheelhaase to the role and leaves the Ravens after three years working alongside Lamar Jackson. Monken, who will 60 on February 5, takes over as an NFL head coach for the first time.

He comes into the Browns with a decision to make about his quarterback. Shedeur Sanders held the role at the end of the 2025 campaign but Deshaun Watson will be healthy again when the 2026 season kicks off after two surgeries on a torn Achilles.

Monken has a long history of getting the best out of quarterbacks, something which will appeal to the Browns and Sanders on an individual level.

The Browns also drafted Dillon Gabriel last year before eventually taking Sanders in the fifth round and Gabriel cannot be counted out as a part of the team’s future.

The Browns also hold the sixth pick in the NFL Draft later this year.
