Shark ‘warning’ as enormous predator circles waters in Brit vacation hotspot

Shark alert hits Ibiza as predator circles marina

A shark warning has been issued at a holiday destination beloved by Brits after the oceanic beast was captured on camera gliding through a harbour in Ibiza.

A marina worker at the Spanish port in the Balearic Islands spotted the predator circling the docks earlier this week. Bosun Ediz Mehmet said he turned up at Marina Botafoc around 8am on Monday when he clocked the creature.

He witnessed what seemed to be a blue shark navigating through the marina waters. “I work on a boat that is moored in Marina Botafoc and as I arrived there this morning at about 8am there was what looks like a blue shark about two to three metres long swimming around in circles in the harbour,” he said.

Most fully-grown blue sharks range between 1.7m and 2.2m – although some specimens have been recorded reaching up to 4m in length.

According to Mehmet, 46, from Cala de Bou, the shark seemed to be wounded. He noted it was displaying strange behaviour as it travelled through the waters.

“It must be confused by the bad weather,” remarked one witness who caught sight of the shark, reports the Mirror.

Images and footage taken by onlookers show it weaving between the jetties, with observers spotting a minor injury on the top section of its dorsal fin, which some suspect could be a bite mark.

This follows another incident where a shark measuring approximately 2m was seen patrolling a Spanish beach’s shoreline, leading to tourist evacuations.

Holidaymakers were told to clear the area after the 6ft 6in shark’s fin was observed breaking the surface mere feet from bathers. The dramatic encounter unfolded at La Reya Beach in Puerto de Mazarrón, close to Murcia in Spain.

“It’s a massive creature,” remarked one local as crowds assembled along the shoreline to capture footage of the predator.

Lifeguards urged sunbathers to maintain a safe distance whilst an emergency response vessel was deployed to the scene.

The boat’s crew successfully guided the shark away from the shallows, where it faced the danger of becoming stranded.

Footage of the shark circulated on TikTok, with one clip becoming a sensation and racking up nearly one million views and thousands of responses.

“Between jellyfish and sharks, I’ve lost all desire to go to the beach,” commented one viewer.

Another chimed in with, “It’s a blue shark and does not normally attack humans,” and a third added: “I was swimming there in the bay, I turned around and that blue shark appeared next to me.”

A fourth user observed: “It was probably in some kind of trouble, that’s why it was swimming around.”
