England star wants emergency surgical procedure after horror harm as World Cup doubtful

An England international requires emergency surgery as he was stretchered off and taken to hospital after suffering a horror head injury in a collision with the opposition goalkeeper

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to undergo surgery today following his horrific head injury. The England midfielder suffered a shocking injury whilst playing for AC Milan at the weekend.

He crashed into Parma keeper Edoardo Corvi, with medics racing to assist him as blood streamed from his face. The 30-year-old was immediately fitted with a neck brace and carried off on a stretcher.

DAZN revealed that the worst damage was inflicted on his teeth, whilst the midfielder was then taken to hospital. AC Milan have yet to provide an official statement but according to Sky in Italy, Loftus-Cheek will have surgery for a broken jaw.

The injury is expected to rule him out for months. Loftus-Cheek moved to AC Milan from Chelsea in 2023, having progressed through the Blues’ academy system.

He has since featured in 94 matches for the Italian club and found the net 13 times. Parma manager Carlos Cuesta ensured he praised the midfielder in his post-match comments. He said: “I want to talk about Loftus-Cheek first, I hope he is okay and our thoughts are with him.”

Milan will be hoping they can call upon Loftus-Cheek’s talents again as quickly as possible. Their bid for the Serie A crown is stumbling under Max Allegri, with Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Parma leaving them second in the standings but already ten points behind bitter rivals Inter.

Discussing manager Allegri earlier this campaign, Loftus-Cheek revealed: “He’s just getting to know other players on a personal basis, and developing the relationship with everyone, but you can see how he works, very intense when he works.

“He’s won so many, so many things, so many trophies in the past that you can’t help but look up to what he’s done, and have huge respect for the manager.”

The midfielder also emphasised his ambition to earn an England recall ahead of this summer’s World Cup, though his prospects now seem uncertain following his fitness setback.

He explained: “Potentially, but it’s not at the forefront of my mind. A good season might help me get there, but I have to take it game by game. We work endlessly in training every day and make sure we perform. If everything is going well, it will take care of itself.”

AC Milan return to action this weekend when they host relegation-battling Cremonese at the San Siro.
