Russia ‘powerless’ towards AI ‘Martian’ drones utilizing NASA house tech to hunt Putin’s troops
Russian forces have been left terrified by a new type of Ukrainian killer drone they have dubbed “Martians” as they are unable to track the unmanned aircraft
Russian troops have voiced alarm over a new lethal breed of Ukrainian drones they’ve dubbed “Martians”. Vladimir Putin‘s soldiers claim they’re unable to detect the unmanned craft, which are also immune to electronic warfare disruption.
Ukraine is reportedly using drones which ditch GPS in favour of space-age “visual tracking,” borrowing the clever camera-navigation tech used by NASA’s Mars helicopters. The new type of AI-powered UAV has rattled Russian military bloggers who have expressed both dread and jealousy regarding its advanced abilities.
One blogger said: “At the final stage of the attack, the drone turns off communication and becomes fully autonomous.
“It compares images from its cameras with a pre-loaded map of heights and terrain in real time. This makes the drone invisible to detectors and invulnerable to electronic warfare systems.”
The tech was born on Mars, where NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter, hitched to the Perseverance rover, pulled off 72 flights.
Because there is no GPS on the Red Planet, the chopper had to think for itself using built-in robot eyes to navigate the alien wasteland.
That same Mars-grade tech has now seemingly landed on the front lines. Russian military reporter Sergei Kolyasnikov warned the arrival of the autonomous drones marks a frightening shift in the war.
He said: “In essence, Ukraine has introduced a new generation [of drones], which is creating serious logistics challenges.
“From what we currently know, these drones operate day and night, and are inaudible – except in the final seconds, when they dive.
“They are undetectable by conventional detectors and are protected from electronic warfare. They are extremely high-quality, mass-produced military-grade products.
“And there’s a theory that they are controlled not by human operators, but by AI. If they are dropped by a Starlink-powered relay wing, their range is very long. They are very fast….and you can’t escape at speed.”
Russian state media outlet TASS claimed today: “Ukrainian forces have begun using ‘Martian’ drones in strikes on Horlivka, a [Ukrainian] city in the [invaded] Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR)….
“Their speed was put at up to 186mph which was “dangerous”. They are ‘controlled by AI’ and ‘undetectable by electronic warfare systems’.”
