Cleaner finds useless physique in soccer stadium bogs days after final recreation

Schalke have released a statement after a man was found dead inside the club’s stadium

German football club FC Schalke have announced that an investigation is underway after a 65-year-old man was found dead at their stadium.

The man was discovered by a cleaner in the toilets at the VELTINS-Arena on Thursday. The grim discovery was made during a routine check of the toilet facilities, prompting a call to the police. Officers swiftly arrived and sealed off the area as they began their investigation.

According to German media outlet Bild, it’s thought that the man suffered a medical incident before collapsing. Reports also suggest that he had been attending an event at the stadium on Wednesday, only to be found the following day.

At present, there are no indications of any criminal involvement, although questions are being raised about why no one noticed the man was missing until his body was found the next day. It’s reported that the man was a local resident of Gelsenkirchen.

In response to the tragic incident, Schalke released a statement: “FC Schalke 04 reacted with great dismay on Thursday to the news that a deceased person was found in a restroom at the VELTINS-Arena.

“Schalke 04 expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing, and the club refers inquiries to the responsible police authority.

Schalke are currently topping the second division of German football after being relegated from the Bundesliga in 2023. They haven’t played a home match since their 4-1 victory over Preussen Munster on Sunday, April 19.

They defeated Paderborn 3-2 on Sunday to stretch their unbeaten streak to 11 games, and they’ll be back at the VELTINS-Arena in a week’s time to host Dusseldorf. The German team then have one more home match remaining this season, with a face-off against Eintracht Braunschweig scheduled for the final day of the campaign.

Schalke have been based at their current home since August 2001, having previously played at the Parkstadion. The stadium currently has a seating capacity of 62,271.
