Footballer and supervisor’s son dies on pitch as membership mourn ‘worst day in historical past’

Football has been left in mourning as tributes have been paid to a player who tragically collapsed and died on the pitch while his manager dad was watching on the sidelines

Bosnian football has been left in mourning following the death of Amir Dzihan, who tragically collapsed and died on the pitch.

Dzihan was playing for second division side NK Bajer Velagici against FK Vitez when he collapsed. The footballer suddenly fell to the ground and medical staff rushed onto the pitch to tend to him. Sadly, their resuscitation efforts were in vain.

The match was immediately stopped as players, staff and fans watched on in horror. Even more harrowingly, Dzihan was the son of Bajer’s coach, Enes Dzihan. FK Vitez released a short statement regarding the incident, which read: “The match will not continue. Our thoughts and prayers are with the visiting player, his family and the NK Bajer club.”

Bajer also issued their own tragic statement, delivering the devastating news to their fans. They wrote: “Dear fans, it is with great sadness that we inform you that today at our club’s match.

“Amir Džihan had a serious accident, which he unfortunately did not survive. Amir is the son of our coach Enes Džihan and we are all in shock. We ask for your understanding and support for our family.”

Bajer also posted a tribute to Dzihan the following day, they wrote, as translated from their social media page: “Amir Džihan, a guy who spent his whole life in sports and for whom soccer was much more than sports, left us yesterday, unfortunately, too soon.

“Fate decreed that Amir would lose his life right in the match and that his father Enes Dzihan would lead him from the bench in his last match. Amir worked in Croatia and came home on weekends and made himself available to his NK Bajer 99.

“In a short time, he became a favourite among his teammates and will remain in the hearts of the players, fans and club management. The management of NK “Bajer 99” will visit the Džihan family today and will be with them in these difficult days.

“The players, management and fans are still in shock and can’t believe what happened in a game that was supposed to be just one more in a series and will remain in the memory of all of us as the worst thing that happened in the history of the club.
