A 14-year-old schoolgirl has died after emergency services were called to a railway incident in the Shildon area of County Durham on Wednesday, April 22. Police have released a statement

A 14-year-old girl has tragically died following an incident on railway tracks in County Durham.

British Transport Police were summoned to a casualty on the tracks in the Shildon area on Wednesday, April 22, alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service and North East Ambulance Service.

The schoolgirl was airlifted in critical condition to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The teenager, who attended Greenfield Academy in Newton Aycliffe, sadly passed away in hospital on Saturday night (May 2), as confirmed by British Transport Police.

A spokesperson for BTP stated: “Tragically, the girl – who we are not naming in accordance with her family’s wishes – passed away in hospital on the evening of Saturday 2 May. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

“Specially trained officers are supporting her family, who have expressed their sincerest thanks to everyone who has reached out to them. They now ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with their unimaginable loss.”, reports Chronicle Live.

Meanwhile, a gran has been convicted of manslaughter after she forced her four-year-old granddaughter to binge drink whisky. Evil Roxanne Record, 57, plied little China Record with the rest of a bottle of the booze as punishment for the youngster taking a sip.

Prosecutors said the tragic tot was forced to her knees and made to finish a 750ml bottle of Canadian Mist while her mum Kadjah Record looked on and did nothing. She is also charged with murder for failing to stop the horror and will stand trial at a later date.

Medics found China unresponsive at the family home in Baton Rouge in Louisiana, USA, in April 2022. An autopsy later revealed she a blood alcohol content of 0.680 – more than eight times the legal limit for an adult driver.

Prosecutors described a “pattern of cruelty” inside the home and said China’s siblings were conditioned to believe she was “stealing” when she tried to access basic necessities like food and water.

Assistant District Attorney Dana Cummings said: “Her grandmother never, ever took to her, never liked her, treated her differently than she treated the other children. She just went on with daily life while she died.”

Prosecutors said the punishment began when China took a single sip from a whisky bottle left on a kitchen counter. Her grandmother then forced her to drink the rest of the 750ml bottle, around 1.6 pints of 40% strength alcohol.
