Pep Guardiola tipped for shock subsequent job as World Cup icon says ‘you would be dumb to not’

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been tipped to take a shock national team job by a on iconic World Cup star as he urged for officials to give the successful manager a call

Pep Guardiola’s next role after 10 years at Manchester City could be a shock change to national team management across the pond.

The current Manchester City manager looks set to leave the blue side of the city after bringing 20 trophies to the Etihad Stadium. Reports on Monday (May 18) by the Daily Mail have suggested Guardiola will leave at the end of the season.

As well as speculation on the next Man City boss, their is also speculation of where Guardiola’s career will take him next having already managed some of the biggest club’s in Europe.

Which is why a World Cup icon and former US men’s national team star has tipped Guardiola to take over the United States after Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

Alexi Lalas, known by some fans for his time as LA Galaxy GM during David Beckham’s time, said “you would be dumb not to take that call”.

Speaking on his podcast, Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union Podcast, he said: “If Pep Guardiola is available, and he’s open to it, you would be dumb not to take that call and sit down and to see how he thinks about these things.

“You absolutely make that call. You may even get that call. I mean, we know Pep famously took a sabbatical. Where did he go? Went to the United States. It might appeal to him.”

Both Guardiola and Manchester City are yet to comment on the reports despite speculation a replacement has already been lined up.

Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been tipped to replace Guardiola after previously spending time as his assistant at City.

It comes as Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after second-placed Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by a Bournemouth side bound for Europe.

Erling Haaland equalised in added time to cancel out Junior Kroupi’s record-breaking 13th top-flight goal of the campaign but the visitors were unable to force a winner as Guardiola was denied a potential fairytale farewell.

The 10-time English champions arrived on the south coast three days after lifting the FA Cup but with news of Guardiola’s possible departure dominating the headlines.

Travelling fans chanted “one more year, one more year, Guardiola” at regular intervals, while one fan unfurled a bedsheet with ‘Pep Stay’ written on it.
